Shuttle ground turnaround operations

Abstract

It is pointed out that a Shuttle turnaround of two weeks will require new innovative and creative ideas for ground operations. The approach selected implements proven techniques and reduces system level checkout as performance confidence is achieved. Details of operational turnaround are discussed, giving attention also to external tank processing, solid rocket booster (SRB) processing, the SRB recovery concept, and payload processing.
