Structure in the interstellar extinction curve.

Abstract

Using photographic techniques, it was attempted to obtain spectra of the interstellar material at a resolution of about 5 A. Three classes of structures are discussed. It is pointed out that the optical observations can be extended into the UV with a resolution of 0.4 A using the OAO-C telescope. The far UV observations would make it possible to conduct an extended search for new diffuse features, in order to evaluate the significance of the apparent absence of any features short of 4,430 A.
