Lunar thermal aspects from Surveyor data.

Abstract

Results from five unmanned Surveyor spacecraft which successfully landed on the moon and transmitted data back to the earth. The spatial resolution from Surveyor data was 1000 times better than that of temperatures from earth-based measurements, yet the correspondence is remarkably close. Temperatures obtained from the spacecraft that landed in maria were consistent with each other and with earth-based results. However, temperatures from Surveyor 7, which landed in a highlands region, were higher than anticipated from earth-based data.
