Stratospheric ozone
Abstract
The photochemical and transport processes in the earth stratosphere are discussed. The effects of certain trace constituents such as water vapor and oxides of nitrogen on the stratospheric ozone distribution are analyzed. The changes in the surface ultraviolet radiation levels which result from changes in the chemical composition in the stratosphere are examined. The influences of absorption and scattering of ultraviolet radiation on the thermal structure of the stratosphere are explained.
