Hyperspectral Detail Meets Radiometric Accuracy: A Foundational Reflected Solar Capability for the Coming Decade

Hyperspectral Earth-reflected solar measurements contain rich, detailed information about clouds, aerosols, and the atmosphere. This information compounds when paired with high, SI-traceable radiometric accuracy. Unlike spectral resolution, which can be resampled to coarser spectral resolutions, radiometric accuracy cannot be recovered once a measurement is made, making the choice to invest in this capability now a decision with lasting consequences for the climate record. CLARREO Pathfinder is demonstrating that this combination of hyperspectral sampling and benchmark-quality accuracy is achievable today, but no follow-on mission is currently planned within NASA's Earth Science Division portfolio, and the recent cancellation of the European Space Agency TRUTHS mission has heightened the urgency of sustaining this capability. We recommend prioritizing investment in a follow-on to CLARREO Pathfinder, along with dedicated support for the science community to fully exploit these measurements. This capability would reduce long-standing uncertainties in cloud feedback, aerosol forcing, and global energy imbalance, while providing a degradation-resistant, gap-resilient calibration foundation for the broader Earth observing system. Building on flight-proven technology and an engaged science community, this is a near-term, fiscally realistic opportunity to secure a foundational Earth observation capability for the coming decade.

Commercial and Industrial Energy Procurement in Nigeria: A Consumer's Guidebook

Across Africa, countries have incorporated a variety of new energy sources into their energy mix to account for increasing demand. In Nigeria, electricity consumption per capita has grown nearly 50% in the past 20 years. To address rising demand for energy in Nigeria, the country has passed several recent policies and regulations aimed at increasing energy generation across the country, improving the country's transmission infrastructure, and ensuring that electricity reliably reaches end users, including commercial and industrial (C&I) customers. This guidebook is designed for C&I customers in Nigeria to use in the consideration of procuring such onsite, captive energy systems to supplement their energy needs. Each section of this guidebook touches on a step of the procurement process and details the relevant stakeholders, processes, and data needed to make decisions during that step.

A Critical Review of Heliostat Design for Concentrating Solar Thermal Technologies

Heliostat designs have undergone a widespread and eclectic development process, with many unique designs demonstrated. However, recent developments do not show the overall cohort converging toward a globally accepted universal design. Here, this study characterizes heliostats by breaking down and evaluating design traits based on emergent patterns from a comprehensive compilation of known heliostat designs spanning several decades. Four main categories for evaluation emerged: heliostat base, heliostat primary axis, heliostat drive, and facet support. Each of these four categories is further defined by four subtypes so that all heliostats fall into a single subtype within each category. The classified heliostats are ranked, yielding several view slices into the heliostat compilation or a breakdown of heliostats by type. An analysis of the breakdown shows several trends: a scale-up of established designs, new approaches at small to medium scales, and a movement toward greater adoption of linear drives. These trends reflect the most meaningful contributing factors to a proposed trajectory for a new era of heliostat designs striving to meet widely considered cost targets of $\$$50/m 2 or $\$$75/m 2 .
