HRMT-60- RaDIATE Material Studies

HRMT-60 experiment was performed at the CERN-HiRadMat facility in October 2022 to understand thermal shock response of conventional materials and novel materials to support the design and operation of future multi-MW accelerator beam windows and secondary particle-production targets. This experiment, organized within the framework of the RaDIATE collaboration, builds on the previous HRMT-43 (BeGrid2) experiment, where a variety of materials in both non-irradiated and previously proton-irradiated conditions were tested. The primary goal was to understand the failure mechanisms, limits and flow behavior of the various material specimens, as well as compare and contrast the thermal shock response of previously irradiated materials to their non-irradiated counterparts. A total of 120 samples were tested at different beam conditions. This poster will present the preliminary results of several materials tested during this experiments.

Physics Opportunities at a Beam Dump Facility at PIP-II at Fermilab and Beyond

The Fermilab Proton-Improvement-Plan-II (PIP-II) is being implemented in order to support the precision neutrino oscillation measurements at the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment, the U.S. flagship neutrino experiment. The PIP-II LINAC is presently under construction and is expected to provide 800~MeV protons with 2~mA current. This white paper summarizes the outcome of the first workshop on May 10 through 13, 2023, to exploit this capability for new physics opportunities in the kinematic regime that are unavailable to other facilities, in particular a potential beam dump facility implemented at the end of the LINAC. Various new physics opportunities have been discussed in a wide range of kinematic regime, from eV scale to keV and MeV. We also emphasize that the timely establishment of the beam dump facility at Fermilab is essential to exploit these new physics opportunities.

Accelerators for Rare Processes and Physics Beyond Colliders: Report of the AF5 Topical Group to Snowmass 2021

This report summarizes the findings of the AF5 Topical Subgroup to Snowmass 2021, which investigated accelerators for rare processes and physics beyond colliders. The report focuses primarily on opportunities for dark sector searches and the need for coordinated development of the Fermilab experimental program for PIP-II and beyond. In addition, a number of other physics opportunities are cataloged and suggestions for synergistic R&D opportunities with various areas of technological development are discussed.
