Search for Solar Boosted Dark Matter Particles at the PandaX-4T Experiment

We present a novel constraint on light dark matter utilizing 1.54 metric ton/year of data acquired from the PandaX-4T dual-phase xenon time projection chamber. This constraint is derived through detecting electronic recoil signals resulting from the interaction with solar-enhanced dark matter flux. Low-mass dark matter particles, lighter than a few MeV / c 2 , can scatter with the thermal electrons in the Sun. Consequently, with higher kinetic energy, the boosted dark matter component becomes detectable via contact scattering with xenon electrons, resulting in a few keV energy deposition that exceeds the threshold of PandaX-4T. We calculate the expected recoil energy in PandaX-4T considering the Sun’s acceleration with heavy mediators and the detection capabilities of the xenon detector. The first experimental search results using the xenon detector yield the most stringent upper limits cross section of 3.51 × 10 − 39 cm 2 at 0.08 MeV / c 2 for a solar boosted dark matter mass ranging from 0.02 to 10 MeV / c 2 , achieving a 23-fold improvement compared with earlier experimental studies. The Novel Scaling of Tsallis Parameters from the Transverse Momentum Spectra of Charged Particles in Heavy-Ion Collisions

The transverse momentum (pT) spectra of charged particles measured in Au + Au collisions from the beam energy scan (BES) program, Cu + Cu collisions at sNN=62.4, 200 GeV at the RHIC and Pb + Pb, Xe + Xe collisions at the LHC are investigated in the framework of Tsallis thermodynamics. The theory can describe the experimental data well for all the collision systems, energies and centralities investigated. The collision energy and centrality dependence of the Tsallis distribution parameters, i.e., the temperature T and the nonextensive parameter q, for the A + A collisions are also studied and discussed. A novel scaling between the temperature divided by the natural logarithm of collision energy (T/lns) and the nonextensive parameter q is presented.

Constraining self-interacting dark matter with the full dataset of PandaX-II

Self-interacting dark matter (SIDM) is a leading candidate proposed to solve discrepancies between predictions of the prevailing cold dark matter theory and observations of galaxies. Many SIDM models predict the existence of a light force carrier that mediates strong dark matter self-interactions. If the mediator couples to the standard model particles, it could produce characteristic signals in dark matter direct detection experiments. We report searches for signals of SIDM models with a light mediator using the full dataset of the PandaX-II experiment, basing on a total exposure of 132 tonne-days. No significant excess over background is found, and our likelihood analysis leads to a strong upper limit on the dark matter-nucleon coupling strength. We further combine the PandaX-II constraints and those from observations of the light element abundances in the early universe, and show that direct detection and cosmological probes can provide complementary constraints on dark matter models with a light mediator.

A Generic High Bandwidth Data Acquisition Card for Physics Experiments

In high energy physics and nuclear physics experiments particularly the ones based on particle accelerator, the data rate from the detector is usually in the order of Terabytes per second. This high throughput data from detector front-end electronics need to be transmitted to the back-end computing farm for high level event selection and building. A Data Acquisition (DAQ) system with features of high-density, scalable, easily upgradeable is crucial to simplify the readout architecture of whole experiment. This paper will introduce the design of a generic high bandwidth PCIe card which can be used as the important input output card in a scalable DAQ system. It can factorize front-end electronics from data handling, and reduce amount of custom hardware in favor of scalable detectorindependent commercial hardware and software. Besides the 48 channels of bidirectional high speed fiber optical links with frontends, it also supports to synchronize with the experiment timing system, and to fanout the clock and trigger information with a fixed latency to the front-end electronics.
