YBa2Cu3Ox Superconductors Doped With AgO

Improved superconductive materials made by doping compressed powder destined to become YBa2Cu3Ox superconductors with AgO prior to heat treatment. Magnetic properties unlike those of any other superconductor. Specimen suspendable below as well as above magnets, and suspension stable as long as material remains superconductive.

Making A Superconductive Thin Film

Experimental fabrication process results in superconductive thin film of YBa2Cu3O7 ("123" phase of Y/Ba/Cu/O) on substrate of green semiconducting Y2BaCuO5 (the "211" phase). Film becomes superconductive below transition temperature (Tc) of 93 K. Superconducting material to be deposited on substrate. Material then annealed in oxygen at 950 degree C for 6 h, followed by slow cooling in furnace. At this point, material had a Tc of 96 K. Transition to superconductivity at 93 K very sharp. Estimated critical current density 350 A/cm2.

Physical vapor transport crystal growth

The goals of this research are two-fold: to study effective means of growing ZnSe crystals of good optical quality and to determine the advantages of growing such crystals in microgravity. As of this date the optimal conditions for crystal growth have not been determined. However, successful growth runs were made in two furnances and the results are given.

High temperature superconductors

The two principle objectives are to develop materials that superconduct at higher temperatures and to better understand the mechanisms behind high temperature superconductivity. Experiments on the thermal reaction, structure, and physical properties of materials that exhibit superconductivity at high temperatures are discussed.
