Controller develops gain-control signals by comparing detected sound levels in each band with reference set levels. By eliminating multiplexing network and single clock used in digital system, design allows servocontrol rate for each band to be adjusted independently.

Statistical limiter, which protects test specimens during random vibration testing, differentiates between peak acceleration levels that are normal components of vibration signal and those that exhibit damaging characteristics. A distortionless gated compressor for limiting the amplitude of a signal so as not to produce undesired signal levels responsive thereto is disclosed. The gated compressor includes a distortionless multiplier which multiplies an AC signal from a factor defined by a DC control signal. The compressor includes a plurality of channels each responsive to a signal produced in response to the multiplier's output. When the signal supplied to any channel exceeds a prescribed level, the level of the DC control signal is reduced to reduce the multiplier's output level and thereby prevent the signal applied to any channel from exceeding its prescribed level.
A laser scanning system for providing a two-dimensional display of a cylindrical surface, such as to display striae of a fired bullet is described. The cylinder is scanned along its axis by vibrating one mirror in the laser beam path, and is scanned in a direction normal to its axis by vibrating a second mirror in a direction normal to the first or by rotating the bullet. Scan control signals are adjusted in phase to produce a synchronized display of a video signal obtained from detection of scattered light from the surface thus scanned by a laser beam.
Comparator/multiplier arrangement is capable of limiting input power to voice coil so that desired maximum current level is never exceeded. Overall test system consists of signal source which produces frequency spectrum required for acoustic test, gated compressor circuit, and power amplifier feeding transducer.
