Complete Phase Transformation of Ir Nanowire Network into Defect-Rich Oxide Catalyst for High-Performance PEM Water Electrolysis

Iridium-based catalysts remain the most reliable option for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in proton exchange membrane water electrolyzers (PEMWEs). However, their high cost and limited performance represent critical barriers to the commercialization of this green hydrogen production technology. Herein, we report the creation of a metallic Ir nanowire network (IrNWN), which exhibits superior OER performance through its in-situ transition into an oxide structure with high intrinsic activity. At a low loading of 0.25 mgIr/cm2 in PEMWEs, IrNWN achieved a current density of 3.13 A/cm2 at a cell voltage of 1.8 V, outperforming the commercial Ir-based catalyst and surpassing the Department of Energy (DOE) 2026 technical target. Moreover, the high activity of IrNWN was maintained for 900 hours in a durability test at 2 A/cm2, showing a low degradation rate of 0.042 mV/hour. Structural analysis of the electrochemically oxidized IrNWN revealed the presence of mixed Ir oxidation states and a high density of surface terminal oxygen groups (μ1-O), which contributed to a reduced energy barrier for the rate-determining O-O coupling step.

System Modeling and Robust Stability Region Analysis for Multi-inverters Based on VSG

As the number of inverter-interfaced distributed generators (IIDGs) increases, the decrease in the inertia of the microgrid affects the stability of microgrid voltage and current. The virtual synchronous generator (VSG) control method simulates the output characteristics of the synchronous machine to improve the inertia and damping of the microgrid. However, low-frequency oscillations can occur in systems with multi-VSGs connected in parallel, primarily when operating in island mode. Therefore, this article develops the small-signal state-space model for multi-inverters based on VSG and analyses the robust stability region (RSR) of the control parameters. Firstly, an extensible small-signal state-space model is established and simplified in the dq axis, which is a necessary preprocessing for the subsequent stability analysis. Secondly, the guardian map method based on bialternate product operation is constructed, and the RSR is established through translation mapping and rotation mapping. Therefore, the solution of RSR is transformed into the problem of identifying the Hurwitz matrix. Finally, the simulations and experiments verify that the calculated region can ensure stable operation during startup and meet the requirement to suppress low-frequency oscillations. In conclusion, the method of solving RSR proposed in this paper provides a basis for selecting controller parameters in practical engineering.

Stereoselective recognition of morphine enantiomers by μ -opioid receptor

Stereospecific recognition of chiral molecules plays a crucial role in biological systems. The μ-opioid receptor (MOR) exhibits binding affinity towards (-)-morphine, a well-established gold standard in pain management, while it shows minimal binding affinity for the (+)-morphine enantiomer, resulting in a lack of analgesic activity. Understanding how MOR stereoselectively recognizes morphine enantiomers has remained a puzzle in neuroscience and pharmacology for over half-a-century due to the lack of direct observation techniques. To unravel this mystery, we constructed the binding and unbinding processes of morphine enantiomers with MOR via molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the thermodynamics and kinetics governing MOR's stereoselective recognition of morphine enantiomers. Our findings reveal that the binding of (-)-morphine stabilizes MOR in its activated state, exhibiting a deep energy well and a prolonged residence time. In contrast, (+)-morphine fails to sustain the activation state of MOR. Furthermore, the results suggest that specific residues, namely D114 2.50 and D147 3.32 , are deprotonated in the active state of MOR bound to (-)-morphine. This work highlights that the selectivity in molecular recognition goes beyond binding affinities, extending into the realm of residence time.

Mass-selected ion–molecule cluster beam apparatus for ultrafast photofragmentation studies

We describe an apparatus for investigating the excited-state dissociation dynamics of mass-selected ion–molecule clusters by mass-resolving and detecting photofragment-ions and neutrals, in coincidence, using an ultrafast laser operating at high repetition rates. The apparatus comprises a source that generates ion–molecule clusters, a time-of-flight spectrometer, and a mass filter that selects the desired anions, and a linear-plus-quadratic reflectron mass spectrometer that discriminates the fragment anions after the femtosecond laser excites the clusters. The fragment neutrals and anions are then captured by two channeltron detectors. The apparatus performance is tested by measuring the photofragments: I – , CF 3 I – , and neutrals from photoexcitation of the ion–molecule cluster CF 3 I·I – using femtosecond UV laser pulses with a wavelength of 266 nm. Here, the experimental results are compared with our ground state and excited state electronic structure calculations as well as the existing results and calculations, with particular attention to the generation mechanism of the anion fragments and dissociation channels of the ion–molecule cluster CF 3 I·I – in the charge-transfer excited state.

DeePMD-kit v2: A software package for deep potential models

DeePMD-kit is a powerful open-source software package that facilitates molecular dynamics simulations using machine learning potentials known as Deep Potential (DP) models. This package, which was released in 2017, has been widely used in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, and material science for studying atomistic systems. The current version of DeePMD-kit offers numerous advanced features, such as DeepPot-SE, attention-based and hybrid descriptors, the ability to fit tensile properties, type embedding, model deviation, DP-range correction, DP long range, graphics processing unit support for customized operators, model compression, non-von Neumann molecular dynamics, and improved usability, including documentation, compiled binary packages, graphical user interfaces, and application programming interfaces. This article presents an overview of the current major version of the DeePMD-kit package, highlighting its features and technical details. Additionally, this article presents a comprehensive procedure for conducting molecular dynamics as a representative application, benchmarks the accuracy and efficiency of different models, and discusses ongoing developments.
