Unexpected effect of an axial ligand mutation in the type 1 copper center in small laccase: structure-based analyses and engineering to increase reduction potential and activity
A mutation of the axial methionine to leucine unexpectedly lowered the reduction potential of type 1 copper in small laccase, attributable to the presence of water. Two additional mutations removed the water, increasing the potential and activity.
