Isospin composition of fission barriers

We employ a microscopic method to study how isospin affects the fission potential of 240 Pu. Our approach uses constrained Hartree-Fock theory (CHF) which allows us to separately investigate the isoscalar and isovector properties of the nuclear energy density functional (EDF). By analyzing the isoscalar and isovector components of the EDF along the fission path we can assess the isovector contribution to fission barriers. Here, we study this effect for the fully adiabatic path to scission. The isovector component of the fission potential is found to increase in magnitude as the nucleus evolves towards scission, exemplifying the importance of stringent constraints on the isovector sector of the nuclear EDF for reliable predictions of fission properties.

Pauli energy contribution to nucleus-nucleus interaction

The investigation delves into understanding how the Pauli exclusion principle influences the bare potential between atomic nuclei through the application of advanced theoretical methodologies. Specifically, the application of the novel Frozen-Hartree-Fock (DCFHF) technique is employed. The resulting potentials demonstrate a noticeable repulsion at short distances, attributed to the effects of the Pauli exclusion principle. To account for dynamic phenomena, such as nucleon transfer processes, the density-constrained time-dependent Hartree-Fock (DC-TDHF) method is utilized. This approach integrates isovector contributions into the potential, shedding light on their influence on fusion reactions. Notably, the inclusion of isovector effects leads to a reduction or enhancement in the inner part of the potential, suggesting a nuanced role of transfer in the fusion process.

Shell effects in fission and quasi-fission

Quantum shell effects are responsible for asymmetric fission. They are also expected to affect the formation of fission fragments in quasi-fission reactions occurring in heavy-ion collisions. Shell effects in fission are studied with the single-particle energy level density near the Fermi level. In particular, shell effects in the pre-fragments and their role in fixing the final mass asymmetry of the fission fragments are discussed. Systematic time-dependent Hartree-Fock simulations of heavy-ion collisions show that quasi-fission fragment properties share strong similarities with fragments formed in fission of the compound nuclei. This is an indication that similar shell effects are responsible for the final asymmtery in both mechanisms.

A quantal diffusion approach for multinucleon transfer in heavy-ion collisions

The stochastic mean-field (SMF) approach beyond the time-dependent-Hartree-Fock theory is used to explore the primary production cross sections in 64 Ni + 130 Te at the bombarding energy E c.m. = 184.3 MeV and 206 Pb + 118 Sn at E c.m. = 436.8 MeV. Secondary production cross-sections in the same systems are calculated using a statistical de-excitation model with GEMINI++ code. Furthermore, the obtained results are compared with available experimental data. Analysis employing SMF and GEMINI++ exhibit a good agreement with the experimental data.

The TDHF code Sky3D version 1.2

The Sky3D code has been widely used to describe nuclear ground states, collective vibrational excitations, and heavy-ion collisions. The approach is based on Skyrme forces or related energy density functionals. The static and dynamic equations are solved on a three-dimensional grid, and pairing is been implemented in the BCS approximation. This updated version of the code aims to facilitate the calculation of nuclear strength functions in the regime of linear response theory, while retaining all existing functionality and use cases. The strength functions are benchmarked against available RPA codes, and the user has the freedom of choice when selecting the nature of external excitation (from monopole to hexadecapole and more). Some utility programs are also provided that calculate the strength function from the time-dependent output of the dynamic calculations of the Sky3D code.
