Vibration exciting mechanisms induced by flow in turbomachine stages

The quasisteady computer analysis of the perturbated centrifugal impeller passage flow was reviewed. A total of 115 stage calculations were used to define the fluid damping coefficient, delta sub fluid. Results indicate that the average total damping coefficient per stage needed for stability is delta sub total 1.85.

Software reliability: A comparison of results obtained from established software reliability models

Two models of the software error detection process are compared, the Jelinski-Moranda model and a Bayes inference model. Simulation techniques are used to generate software related system failure data which is analyzed by both models. Point estimates and confidence limits are compared. It is demonstrated that uncertainty may be considerable for reasonable samples sizes and should be considered in any application of these techniques. The Jelinski-Moranda model is sensitive to the failure of data to follow internal assumptions of the model, often not providing any point estimates, a factor which may limit its usefulness in many real world situations. The Bayes model is shown to respond to the introduction of additional errors in the software correction process, a condition where error counting models such as the Jelinski-Moranda generally fail to converge.

A multifilter phase-lock loop.

The phase model for the generalized multifilter phase-lock loop (M PLL) is considered and state equations for this model are derived. A linear analysis is presented to aid in the preliminary design of an M PLL and to indicate the noise improvement over a conventional phase-lock loop (PLL). Performance characteristics are examined for an M PLL with low-pass and bandpass characteristics used in a specific FM communication system. Both single and double sinusoidal FM are used and a region of proper operation of the M PLL is determined in terms of modulation index and modulati ng frequency. These results are obtained from both analog and digital computer simulation of the nonlinear system.
