Effects of proton irradiation on luminescence and carrier dynamics of self-assembled III-V quatum dots

The effects of proton irradiation (1.5 MeV) on photoluminescence intensities and carrier dynamics were compared between III-V quantum dots and similar quantum well structures. A significant enhancement in radiation tolerance is seen with three-dimensional quantum confinement. Measurements were carried out in different quantum dot (QD) structures, varying in material (InGaAs/GaAs and InAlAs/AlGaAs), QD surface density (4x10^8 to 3x10'^10 cm^-2), and substrate orientation [(100) and (311) B]. Similar trends were observed for all QD samples. A slight increase in PL emission after low to intermediate proton doses, are also observed in InGaAs/GaAs (100) QD structures. The latter is explained in terms of more efficient carrier transfer from the wetting layer via radiation-induced defects.

Time resolved studies of proton irradiated quantum dots

The effects of proton irradiation on carrier dynamics were measured by time-resolved photoluminescence on InGaAs/GaAs quantum dot structures with different dot density and substrate orientation, as well as on InAlAs/AlGaAs quantum dots.

Observations on the Presumed LET Dependence of SEGR

Single-event gate rupture (SEGR)in vertical power MOSFETs is induced by charge deposited in the epitaxial region (below the gate oxide) in concert with the weakening of the oxide, both are a result of the ion passage.

Benchmark Lisp And Ada Programs

Suite of nonparallel benchmark programs, ELAPSE, designed for three tests: comparing efficiency of computer processing via Lisp vs. Ada; comparing efficiencies of several computers processing via Lisp; or comparing several computers processing via Ada. Tests efficiency which computer executes routines in each language. Available for computer equipped with validated Ada compiler and/or Common Lisp system.

LEO space environmental effects: TRW LDEF experimental trays

Comprised of two identical trays, the TRW Long Duration Exposure Facility (LDEF) experiment (A0054) provided a unique opportunity to study long term space environmental effects on a variety of materials exposed to two different space environments. The leading edge tray saw micrometeors and anthropogenic space debris, ultraviolet radiation, and energetic atomic oxygen. In contrast, the trailing edge tray was exposed to ultraviolet and micrometeors but saw relatively little, if any, space debris fluence and no energetic atomic oxygen. The striking difference in appearance of the two experimental trays is directly attributable to the nonuniformity of the space environment about the LDEF. It is estimated that the majority of the erosion to the Kapton polyimide dielectric material occurred during the last month on orbit due to the sharply nonlinear increase in atomic oxygen number density as orbital altitude decayed over the life of the mission.

A Bayesian classification of the IRAS LRS Atlas

The availability of a reclassification of the IRAS LRS Atlas of spectra using a new Bayesian classification procedure (AutoClass) is announced. The classes of objects which result from the application of the AutoClass algorithm include many of the previously known LRS classes. New classes which have interesting astronomical and astrophysical interpretations were also found. Techniques, such as the AutoClass algorithm, have a bright future in the arena of astronomical classification problems.

Severe storm electricity

Severe storms and lightning were measured with a NASA U2 and ground based facilities, both fixed base and mobile. Aspects of this program are reported. The following results are presented: (1) ground truth measurements of lightning for comparison with those obtained by the U2. These measurements include flash type identification, electric field changes, optical waveforms, and ground strike location; (2) simultaneous extremely low frequency (ELF) waveforms for cloud to ground (CG) flashes; (3) the CG strike location system (LLP) using a combination of mobile laboratory and television video data are assessed; (4) continued development of analog-to-digital conversion techniques for processing lightning data from the U2, mobile laboratory, and NSSL sensors; (5) completion of an all azimuth TV system for CG ground truth; (6) a preliminary analysis of both IC and CG lightning in a mesocyclone; and (7) the finding of a bimodal peak in altitude lightning activity in some storms in the Great Plains and on the east coast. In the forms on the Great Plains, there was a distinct class of flash what forms the upper mode of the distribution. These flashes are smaller horizontal extent, but occur more frequently than flashes in the lower mode of the distribution.

Configuration Analysis Tool (CAT). System Description and users guide (revision 1)

A system description of, and user's guide for, the Configuration Analysis Tool (CAT) are presented. As a configuration management tool, CAT enhances the control of large software systems by providing a repository for information describing the current status of a project. CAT provides an editing capability to update the information and a reporting capability to present the information. CAT is an interactive program available in versions for the PDP-11/70 and VAX-11/780 computers.

The FORTRAN static source code analyzer program (SAP) user's guide, revision 1

The FORTRAN Static Source Code Analyzer Program (SAP) User's Guide (Revision 1) is presented. SAP is a software tool designed to assist Software Engineering Laboratory (SEL) personnel in conducting studies of FORTRAN programs. SAP scans FORTRAN source code and produces reports that present statistics and measures of statements and structures that make up a module. This document is a revision of the previous SAP user's guide, Computer Sciences Corporation document CSC/TM-78/6045. SAP Revision 1 is the result of program modifications to provide several new reports, additional complexity analysis, and recognition of all statements described in the FORTRAN 77 standard. This document provides instructions for operating SAP and contains information useful in interpreting SAP output.

The FORTRAN static source code analyzer program (SAP) system description

A source code analyzer program (SAP) designed to assist personnel in conducting studies of FORTRAN programs is described. The SAP scans FORTRAN source code and produces reports that present statistics and measures of statements and structures that make up a module. The processing performed by SAP and of the routines, COMMON blocks, and files used by SAP are described. The system generation procedure for SAP is also presented.

Development of technique for AR coating nickel and copper metallization of solar cells FPS project product development

Experimental matrices were conducted to determine a suitable firing schedule for fritless tin printing ink. considerable difficulties were encountered with oxidation. Best results were obtained with a firing cycle consisting of 400 C for 20 minutes in nitrogen followed by 5 minutes in air at 500 C. Elimination of oxidizing conditions impaired the adhesion of both tin and copper fritless printing inks, although adhesion of fritless copper inks was obtained when fired in nitrogen with slight oxidation.
