Robust perfluorinated porous organic networks: Succinct synthetic strategy and application in chlorofluorocarbons adsorption

Fluorinated porous organic networks (F-PONs) have demonstrated unique properties and applications, but approaches capable of affording F-PONs with high fluorine content and robust nanoporous architecture under metal-free and easy handling conditions are still rarely reported. Herein, using polydivinylbenzene (PDVB) as an easily available precursor, a novel and straightforward approach was developed to afford F-PONs via a dehydrative Friedel-Crafts reaction using perfluorinated benzylic alcohols as the cross-linking agent promoted by Brønsted acid (trifluoromethanesulfonic acid. Furthermore, the afforded material (F-PDVB) featured high fluorine content (22 at.%), large surface area (771 m 2 ∙g -1 ), and good chemical/thermal stability, rendering them as promising candidates for the adsorption of CO 2 , hydrocarbons, fluorocarbons, and chlorofluorocarbons, with weight capacities up to 520 wt% being achieved. This simple methodology can be extended to fabricate fluorinated hyper-crosslinked polymers (F-HCPs) from rigid aromatic monomers. The progress made in this work will open new opportunities to further expand the involvement of fluorinated materials in large scale applications.

Perovskite Oxide–Halide Solid Solutions: A Platform for Electrocatalysts

The successful integration or hybridization of perovskite oxides with their halide cousins would enable the formation of both multi-anionic and multi-cationic solid solutions with unique metal-ion sites and synergistic properties that could potentially surpass the performance of classic perovskites. However, such solid solutions had not been produced previously owing to their distinct formation energies and different synthesis conditions. Solid solutions combining perovskite oxides with fluorides were produced in this study by mechanochemical synthesis. The obtained perovskite oxide–halide solid solutions had highly mixed elements and valences, uniform element distributions, and single-phase crystalline structures. In this work, the solid solution with an optimized combination of oxides and fluorides exhibited enhanced catalytic performance in the oxygen evolution reaction.

Surpassing the Organic Cathode Performance for Lithium-Ion Batteries with Robust Fluorinated Covalent Quinazoline Networks

Organic electrode materials have promising application prospects in energy storage, but issues including rapid capacity fading and poor power capacity restrict their practical applications. In this study, nanoporous fluorinated covalent quinazoline networks (F-CQNs) were constructed by condensation of fluorinated aromatic aminonitrile precursors via an ionothermal pathway. Precise control of the reaction parameters afforded F-CQN-1-600 material featuring high surface area, permanent porosity, high nitrogen content (23.49 wt %), extended π-conjugated architecture, layered structure, and bipolar combination of benzene and tricycloquinazoline. Synergy among these unique properties leads to a good performance as a cathode source for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) in terms of high capacity (250 mA h g –1 at 0.1 A g –1 ), high rate capability (105 mA h g –1 at 5.0 A g –1 ), and impressive cycling stability (95.8% retention rate after 2000 cycles at 2.0 A g –1 together with a high Coulombic efficiency of 99.95%), surpassing most of the previous organic cathode counterparts.

Room temperature synthesis of high-entropy Prussian blue analogues

High-entropy Prussian blue analogues (HEPBAs) integrating the highly dispersed active sites of high-entropy materials with intrinsic 3D diffusion channels and the redox-active sites of Prussian blue analogues have great potential in electrochemical applications but have not been realized. Herein, a series of HEPBAs were successfully synthesized under room temperature combining mechanochemistry with wet chemistry for the first time.
