Dummy End Points Maintain Orientation In Welding

Programming artifice keeps weld puddle from running off. Dummy points added during off-line programming of circular, noncontiguous computer-controlled weld path to keep weld puddle in proper orientation at ends of path. Incorporation of dummy points simple and requires only few extra minutes of programming effort.

Calibration Check For Programmed Welding Robot

Preweld calibration check helps to ensure welding torch on computer-controlled welding robot mounted properly, right gas cup selected, and length of extension of electrode adjusted correctly. Performed by operator just before dry run for each set of parts welded. Procedure takes 2 to 3 minutes and enables correction of errors before parts or equipment damaged.

Simulating Welding-Robot Trajectories For Previewing

New method devised for generating welding-tool paths; parts of off-line-programmed test trajectories of computer-controlled welding robot. Reduces time necessary to set up simulation of welding process and eliminates some errors by reducing amount of repetition. Provides visual feedback similar to graphical simulation used in off-line-programming process after development of model.

Verification Of Tooling For Robotic Welding

Computer simulations, robotic inspections, and visual inspections performed to detect discrepancies. Method for verification of tooling for robotic welding involves combination of computer simulations and visual inspections. Verification process ensures accuracy of mathematical model representing tooling in off-line programming system that numerically simulates operation of robotic welding system. Process helps prevent damaging collisions between welding equipment and workpiece, ensures tooling positioned and oriented properly with respect to workpiece, and/or determines whether tooling to be modified or adjusted to achieve foregoing objectives.
