Instrumented Pneumatic-Impact Tester

Pneumatic-impact tester is small pressure chamber equipped with specimen holder and optical port. Device designed to test susceptibility of polymeric material to ignition by "pneumatic impact" in high-pressure gaseous oxygen. Used to determine differences among susceptibilities to ignition of different materials and of different batches of nominally same material proposed for use in systems containing pressurized oxygen. Also used to show characteristics of ignition and combustion.

Jig For Compression-Relaxation Tests Of Plastics

Improved jig facilitates tests of long-term compression-relaxation properties of plastics. Holds specimen in compression when removed from compression-testing machine, yet allows compression force on specimen to be measured when on machine. Useful in quantifying some of time-dependent properties of polymers, in investigations of effects of aging, and in ascertaining service lifetimes of polymeric components.

Two Radiative/Thermochemical Instruments

Measurements of absorption and emission complement thermal measurements. Two laboratory instruments for research in combustion and pyrolysis equipped for radiative as well as thermal measurements. One instrument essentially differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) modified to detect radiation emitted by flames. Provides means to evaluate limits of flammability of materials exhibiting exothermic reactions in DSC's. Other instrument used to determine pyrolysis properties of specimens exposed to various gases by measurement of infrared absorption spectra of pyrolysis products.
