Functional Verification for Endcap Concentrator ASICs in the High-Granularity Calorimeter Upgrade of CMS

The High-Granularity Calorimeter (HGCAL) of CMS will undergo a major upgrade during Long-Shutdown 3. The Endcap Concentrator (ECON) ASICs represent key elements in the readout chain, processing trigger (ECON-T) and data (ECON-D) streams from the HGCROC to the lpGBT. The ECONs will operate in a radiation environment with a High-Energy Hadron (HEH) flux of $3\cdot10^{6} cm^{-2}s^{-1}$. This contribution describes the Universal Verification Methodology (UVM)-based functional verification of the ECON ASICs focusing on the re-use of existing components to manage the complexity of the verification environment.

Advanced Radiation Panel design for applications in National Security and Food Safety

We describe a new concept for a basic radiation detection panel based on conventional scintillator technology and commercially available solid-state photo-detectors. The panels are simple in construction, robust, very efficient and cost-effective and are easily scalable in size, from tens of cm 2 to tens of m 2 . We describe two possible applications: flagging radioactive food coontamination and detection of illicit radio nucleides, such as those potentially used in a terrorist attack with a dirty bomb.

Electronics for Fast Timing

Picosecond-level timing will be an important component of the next generation of particle physics detectors. The ability to add a 4$^{th}$ dimension to our measurements will help address the increasing complexity of events at hadron colliders and provide new tools for precise tracking and calorimetry for all experiments. Detectors are described in detail on other whitepapers. In this note, we address challenges in electronics design for the new generations of fast timing detectors
