Quasielastic $\overrightarrow{^{3}He}$ $(\overrightarrow{e},e′)$ asymmetry in the threshold region with a longitudinally polarized target

We report on the measurements of the double-spin asymmetry from electron- 3 He scattering in the threshold region of two- and three-body breakup of 3 He for 4-momentum transfer values of 0.1 and 0.2 (GeV/c) 2 . The measurement was done at Jefferson Lab using a polarized 3 He target with its spin aligned parallel to the beam direction. This asymmetry is sensitive to a combination of spin-dependent response functions not previously measured and may highlight differences in two body forces, meson-exchange currents and final-state interactions. The results of this measurement serve as a test of our understanding of few-body systems. When compared with calculations from plane wave impulse approximation and Faddeev calculations, we found that the latter, which use modern nuclear potentials and prescriptions for meson-exchange currents, demonstrate an overall good agreement with data.

Balloons on planet Venus - Final results

On June 11 and 15, 1985 two packages with balloons have been inserted in the atmosphere of Venus from the Soviet VEGA landing modules. This paper summarizes the pressure, temperature, wind illumination and backscattering data from the balloons.

Equatorial ionospheric currents derived from MAGSAT data

The MAGSAT data on the three component's of the geomagnetic field are subjected to ring current correction and crustal anomaly elimination near the dip equator. The evidence of a strong west east electrojet current below the satellite height (approximately 350 km) is confirmed. Strong evidence of east-west component of the field suggests the existence of a vertical current originating at the jet level and extending upwards. A model calculation shows that such a current system can explain the satellite data as well as the ground data.

MAGSAT for geomagnetic studies over Indian region

The external current field due to ring current and the associated induced part were removed. Adjacent passes over India were elected and best function to account for the trend correction was estimated. The UPCON software sent from Canada was made operational and features of equatorial electrojet were studied from MAGSAT records.

MAGSAT for geomagnetic studies over Indian region

The major activities of the period are summarized. Data tapes generated on an IBM system were read on DEC-10 system new tapes compatible with DEC-10 system were prepared for data sections of interest. Core and external current contributions were removed from selected passes over the Indian region and the residuals analyzed. Possible equatorial electrojet contributions to the MAGSAT data were studied.

MAGSAT for geomagnetic studies over Indian region

Progress in the preparation of software for converting data tapes produced on an IBM system to data readable on a DEC-10 system, in the creation of awareness of the utility of MAGSAT data among users in India, and in making computer programs supplied by NASA operational on the DEC-10 system is reported. Papers presented to Indian users, at the IAGA fourth scientific assembly, at a symposium on interdisciplinary approaches to geomagnetism, and a paper published in Science Today are included.
