Swelling of TPX

The hygroscopic swelling and the thermal expansion behavior of TPX showed anomalous behavior relative to our observations for several other materials tested in the last few years. The hygroscopic swelling showed no correlation to the change in humidity, i.e., the material didn’t necessarily always swell when humidity was increased, it sometime shrank as well. In response to increase in temperature, the material consistently expanded. However, the rate of expansion with temperature changed between experiments. Hence, it was difficult to extract any reliable parameter values for this material.

Sensor array and apparatus for simultaneous observation of tissue electrophysiology, contractility, and growth

A method includes simultaneously measuring electrophysiological responses and contractility responses of a plurality of cells forming a tissue culture using a system comprising a sensor array configured to simultaneously measure the electrophysiological responses and the contractility responses of the plurality of cells forming the tissue culture. Fabrication techniques for making such systems include: forming a sensor array comprising an interpenetrating arrangement of IDEs and electrodes of a MEA in or on a substrate surface; forming a plurality of contacts for interfacing the system with one or more external devices in or on the substrate surface; and forming leads between the plurality of contacts and the sensor array.

Ultralight conductive metallic aerogels

In accordance with one aspect of the presently disclosed inventive concepts, a metal aerogel includes a plurality of metal nanowires formed into a porous three-dimensional structure, where pores in the structure are anisotropic.

Water sorption equilibrium and dynamics on Epon 828-Epikure 3125

Epon 828-Epikure 3125 absorbs a significant amount of water (up to 4 weight percent), but diffusion of water into the material is slow. A one cm thick open slab may take 80 days to reach equilibrium at 70 °C and five years at 20 °C.

Moisture Sorption and Swelling of Sylgard-184

The report summarizes the quantitative assessment of moisture sorption by Sylgard-184. It is an important ingredient in many of our materials. Moisture sorption for this material has been extensively studied with data from 9 different samples available for analysis. These samples varied in size and geometry. Seven of the 9 samples were thin slabs. The remaining 2 were cylinders, one of which had comparable height and diameter and is therefore considered a 3-D sample. All the samples, except 2 (1D_slab4.06mm and 1D_Sylgard_2016_Sharma) belonged to lot number A1606324. They were all prepared by Tony Rodrigues in the plastics shop in the Summer of 2016 and tested by Hom Sharma between October 2016 and June 2017. 1D_slab4.06mm was also prepared by Tony Rodrigues in the plastics shop in Summer of 2016, however, the sample did not have a lot number. 1D_Sylgard_2016_Sharma was prepared by Hom Sharma in February 2016 and tested potentially around May - June 2016.

Lattice microfluidics

An engineered unit cell is disclosed for flowing a fluid therethrough in three dimensions. The unit cell may have a substrate with a plurality of flow channels around and between struts formed within the substrate. The struts may each be formed with a desired shape and orientation within the substrate to achieve a desired degree of fluid flow through the flow channels, in each of one of three dimensions, through the unit cell.
