Search for low-mass electron-recoil dark matter using a single-charge sensitive SuperCDMS-HVeV Detector

We present constraints on low mass dark matter-electron scattering and absorption interactions using a SuperCDMS high-voltage eV-resolution (HVeV) detector. Data were taken underground in the NEXUS facility located at Fermilab with an overburden of 225 meters of water equivalent. The experiment benefits from the minimizing of luminescence from the printed circuit boards in the detector holder used in all previous HVeV studies. A blind analysis of $6.1\,\mathrm{g\cdot days}$ of exposure produces exclusion limits for dark matter-electron scattering cross-sections for masses as low as $1\,\mathrm{MeV}/c^2$, as well as on the photon-dark photon mixing parameter and the coupling constant between axion-like particles and electrons for particles with masses $>1.2\,\mathrm{eV}/c^2$ probed via absorption processes.

Large low background kTon-scale liquid argon time projection chambers

Here we find that it is possible to increase sensitivity to low energy physics in a third or fourth Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE)-like module with careful controls over radiopurity and targeted modifications to a detector similar to the DUNE Far Detector design. In particular, sensitivity to supernova and solar neutrinos can be enhanced with improved MeV-scale reach. A neutrinoless double beta decay search with 136 Xe loading appears feasible. Furthermore, sensitivity to Weakly-Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP) Dark Matter becomes competitive with the planned world program in such a detector, offering a unique seasonal variation detection that is characteristic of the nature of WIMPs.

CDMSLITE LIGHTLY IONIZING PARTICLE SEARCH

An encouraging avenue of investigation beyond the Standard Model (SM) is the search for particles with fractional electric charge. While the SM does not anticipate the existence of free particles with a fractional electric charge, fractionally charged particles (FCPs) have not been experimentally excluded. Free fractionally charged particles are a feature of viable extensions to the Standard Model with extra U(1) gauge symmetries. This thesis describes a FCP search using CDMSlite Run 2 Period 1 data which results in the first direct detection limits on cosmogenic FCPs with an electric charge as small as e{108 and the most stringent limit on vertical intensity for FCPs with an electric charge § e{160. This analysis is also the first to consider cosmogenic FCPs with a wide range of masses (5 MeV/c2 – 100 TeV/c2) and velocities (
