Tests of Ring-stiffened Circular Cylinders Subjected to a Transverse Shear Load

Thirty-four circular cylinders stiffened by heavy rings were loaded to failure in combined bending and shear with a transverse shear load. The results are presented in the form of an interaction curve which is applicable to the design of ring-stiffened cylinders that fail as a result of local buckling. (author)

Bending Tests of Ring-stiffened Circular Cylinders

Twenty-five ring-stiffened circular cylinders were loaded to failure in bending. The results are presented in the form of design curves which are applicable to cylinders with heavy rings that fail as a result of local buckling.

An Analysis of the Stability and Ultimate Compressive Strength of Short Sheet-Stringer Panels with Special Reference to the Influence of Riveted Connection Between Sheet and Stringer

A method of strength analysis of short sheet-stringer panels subjected to compression is presented which takes into account the effect that the riveted attachments between the plate and the stiffeners have on the strength of the panels. An analysis of experimental data shows that panel strength is highly influenced by rivet pitch, diameter, and location and that the degree of influence for a given riveting depends on the panel configuration and panel material. A Summary of Diagonal Tension Part I : Methods of Analysis

Previously published methods for stress and strength analysis of plane and curved shear webs working in diagonal tension are presented as a unified method. The treatment is sufficiently comprehensive and detailed to make the paper self-contained. Part 1 discusses the theory and methods for calculating the stresses and shear deflections of web systems as well as the strengths of the web, the stiffeners, and the riveting. Part 2, published separately, presents the experimental evidence. (author)
