Low-thermal-resistance mounting achieved by preloading baseplate to slight convexity with screws threaded through beam. As mounting bolts around edge of base-place tightened, baseplate and cold plate contact first in center, with region of intimate contact spreading outward as bolts tightened.
The power processor operates in several modes, delivering up to 100 amperes of regulated electrical power, operating at input voltages to 375 volts with outputs controlled by an integral microprocessor. Several alternative packaging concepts are discussed and evaluated. High-voltage design applications, power stage interconnection and EMI considerations are also discussed. Preliminary thermal analyses were performed and the results presented for each conceptual approach with parametric study results given for the selected concept.
Unit holds fifteen cells weighing 1.3 kilogram each, withstands vibration continuously, can be pressurized to 25 psig (175 x 1000 N/M to the 2nd power). Unit offers potential of low-cost fabrication and increased accessibility to enclosed battery cells. Device may double as utility chest for tool storage and other items.
