Infrared Interlayer Exciton Emission in MoS 2 / WSe 2 Heterostructures

Here, we report light emission around 1 eV (1240 nm) from heterostructures of MoS 2 and WSe 2 transition metal dichalcogenide monolayers. We identify its origin in an interlayer exciton (ILX) by its wide spectral tunability under an out-of-plane electric field. From the static dipole moment of the state, its temperature and twist-angle dependence, and comparison with electronic structure calculations, we assign this ILX to the fundamental interlayer transition between the K valleys in this system. Our results gain access to the interlayer physics of the intrinsically incommensurate MoS 2 /WSe 2 heterostructure, including moiré and valley pseudospin effects, and its integration with silicon photonics and optical fiber communication systems operating at wavelengths longer than 1150 nm.

Filter arrays

The various technologies presented herein relate to a tiled filter array that can be used in connection with performance of spatial sampling of optical signals. The filter array comprises filter tiles, wherein a first plurality of filter tiles are formed from a first material, the first material being configured such that only photons having wavelengths in a first wavelength band pass therethrough. A second plurality of filter tiles is formed from a second material, the second material being configured such that only photons having wavelengths in a second wavelength band pass therethrough. The first plurality of filter tiles and the second plurality of filter tiles can be interspersed to form the filter array comprising an alternating arrangement of first filter tiles and second filter tiles.

The Preparation Conditions of Chromium Doped ZnSe and Their Effect on The Infrared Luminescence Properties

We report the investigation by photoluminescence lifetime measurements of the near-IR emissions from a series of chromium-doped ZnSe samples, correlated to their preparation conditions. The samples were polycrystalline or single crystals prepared by post growth diffusion doping or single crystals doped during growth by the Physical Vapor Transport method. Room temperature lifetime values between 6 and 8 microseconds were measured for samples with Cr (2+) concentrations from low 10 (exp 17) to high 10 (exp 18) per cubic centimeter range. Lifetime data taken down to 78 K was found to be rather temperature independent, reconfirming previous reports indicating a quantum yield of the corresponding emission of close to 100% at room temperature. A strong decrease in the room temperature lifetime was found for chromium concentrations higher than 10 (exp 19) per cubic centimeter.
