Lag Model Predictions for UFAST SBLI Flowfield

Presentation for Shock Boundary Layer Interaction Workshop. Shows results for Lag turbulence model on one of the international workshop test cases the UFAST 8 degree test case. Comparison with PIV velocity measurements as well as computed tunnel wall flowfields are shown, emphasizing that the interaction is a 3D phenomena, and is reasonably well predicted.

Computational Simulation of Semispan Wings in Wind Tunnels

The computational modelling of experiments, with the end aim of providing sufficiently accurate simulations to assess and improve turbulence models is described. Solid wall tunnels are the only tunnels in which the boundary conditions can, in principle, be known exactly. The modelling of the tunnel walls for transonic flows requires the accurate modelling of the viscous displacement effects on the tunnel walls. This paper describes the modelling of semispan wing experiments in solid wall tunnels, with the tunnel walls modelled as inviscid walls, and with all 4 walls modelled viscously. The effect of the viscous effects is discussed, as well as the feasibility of modelling these effects in an inviscid, apriori manner.

Low aspect ratio wing experiment

This test was initiated to provide validation data on low aspect ratio wings at transonic speeds. The test was conducted so that the data obtained would be useful in the validation of codes, and all boundary condition data required would be measured as part of the test. During the conduct of the test, the measured quantities were checked for repeatability, and when the data would not repeat, the cause was tracked down and either eliminated or included in the measurement uncertainty. The accuracy of the data was in the end limited by wall imperfections of the wind tunnel in which the test was run.
