Algorithm Aligns Gyrocompass In Twisting And Swaying Vehicle

Algorithm proposed for use with strapdown inertial sensors synthesizes gyrocompass and repeatedly refines alignment of synthetic gyrocompass to maintain accuracy until time of departure. In original application, inertial sensors located in spacecraft twisting and swaying in wind on launching pad, and time of departure is time of launch. Also possible to devise terrestrial version of algorithm for use in aircraft, ground vehicle, or vessel. Algorithm includes local-level-navigator, coarse-alignment, and fine-alignment subalgorithms.

Developing Software For A Flight-Control System

Improved process for development of flight-control software devised by integrating conventional software-development process with conventional control-system-analysis process. Reduces costs of development, eliminates need for reengineering, and almost eliminates production errors. Concept applicable to design of other control systems and of complicated hardware-and-software systems in general.

Thrust-Vector-Control System

Control gains computed via matrix Riccati equation. Software-based system controlling aim of gimbaled rocket motor on spacecraft adaptive and optimal in sense it adjusts control gains in response to feedback, according to optimizing algorithm based on cost function. Underlying control concept also applicable, with modifications, to thrust-vector control on vertical-takeoff-and-landing airplanes, control of orientations of scientific instruments, and robotic control systems.
