Modeling heterogeneous processor scheduling for real time systems

A new model is presented to describe dataflow algorithms implemented in a multiprocessing system. Called the resource/data flow graph (RDFG), the model explicitly represents cyclo-static processor schedules as circuits of processor arcs which reflect the order that processors execute graph nodes. The model also allows the guarantee of meeting hard real-time deadlines. When unfolded, the model identifies statically the processor schedule. The model therefore is useful for determining the throughput and latency of systems with heterogeneous processors. The applicability of the model is demonstrated using a space surveillance algorithm.

Enhanced ATAMM for increased throughput performance of multicomputer data flow architectures

The Algorithm To Architecture Mapping Model (ATAMM) is a Petri-net-based model which provides a strategy for periodic execution of a class of real-time algorithms on multicomputer dataflow architectures. The problem domain of particular interest is the execution of large-grained, decision-free algorithms on homogeneous processing elements. Design techniques are discussed and performance measurements are defined. A multiple-graph execution strategy is shown to increase throughput performance. It is shown that the same increase in performance is attainable with minor modifications to the existing ATAMM.

Design of multivariable feedback control systems via spectral assignment using reduced-order models and reduced-order observers

The feasibility of using reduced order models and reduced order observers with eigenvalue/eigenvector assignment procedures is investigated. A review of spectral assignment synthesis procedures is presented. Then, a reduced order model which retains essential system characteristics is formulated. A constant state feedback matrix which assigns desired closed loop eigenvalues and approximates specified closed loop eigenvectors is calculated for the reduced order model. It is shown that the eigenvalue and eigenvector assignments made in the reduced order system are retained when the feedback matrix is implemented about the full order system. In addition, those modes and associated eigenvectors which are not included in the reduced order model remain unchanged in the closed loop full order system. The fulll state feedback design is then implemented by using a reduced order observer. It is shown that the eigenvalue and eigenvector assignments of the closed loop full order system remain unchanged when a reduced order observer is used. The design procedure is illustrated by an actual design problem.

Ultrasound instrumentation for the 7 inch Mach seven tunnel

The use of an Apple II+ microcomputer to collect data during the operation of the 7 inch Mach Seven Tunnel is discussed. A method by which the contamination of liquid oxygen is monitored with sound speed techniques is investigated. The electrical equivalent of a transducer bonded to a high pressure fill plug is studied. The three areas are briefly explained and data gathered for each area are presented.

Interactive software for spectral assignment

A new interactive computer software package for eigenvalue/eigenvector assignment using constant state feedback is described. The package consists of ten subprograms, each associated with a specific design objective, accessible from a main control program. Using this package, primary design objectives of assigning eigenvalues and approximating eigenvectors are first achieved. Then secondary design objectives, including modification of specific eigenvector components, reduction in specified elements of the feedback gain matrix, and reduction in eigensystem sensitivity to changes in plant parameters, are addressed. These secondary objectives are achieved by a systematic modification of the assigned eigenvectors in a small region about the initial assignment. In addition, the program implements the use of spectral assignment procedures with reduced-order system models. Program modes are described and illustrated by numerical examples.

An eigenvalue/eigenvector assignment algorithm using output feedback

An eigenvalue/eigenvector assignment algorithm using stationary output feedback is presented. The algorithm permits assignment of min (n, m + r - 1) eigenvalues and max (m-1, r-1) eigenvectors, where n, m, r refer to the system state, input and output dimensions, respectively. An example is given to illustrate the design procedures.

Airborne antenna pattern calculations

Progress on the development of modeling software, testing software against caclulated data from program VPAP and measured patterns, and calculating roll plane patterns for general aviation aircraft is reported. Major objectives are the continued development of computer software for aircraft modeling and use of this software and program OSUVOL to calculate principal plane and volumetric radiation patterns. The determination of proper placement of antennas on aircraft to meet the requirements of the Microwave Landing System is discussed. An overview of the performed work, and an example of a roll plane model for the Piper PA-31T Cheyenne aircraft and the resulting calculated roll plane radiation pattern are included.

Design of a robust multivariable proportional plus integral controller via spectral assignment

A new design procedure for a class of multivariable integral plus proportional servo control systems is presented. The procedure utilizes a null space formulation of the eigensystem assignment problem assuming complete state feedback. Reduced order observers are used to estimate unavailable states. The resulting system realizes arbitrary closed-loop eigenvalues, approximates specified modal behavior and achieves low eigensystem sensitivity with respect to plant parameter variations. A tutorial example to illustrate the design procedure is included.

Design of robust state feedback controllers via eigenvalue/eigenvector assignment

A new method of selecting a multivariable state feedback controller is presented. The resulting controller simultaneously realizes arbitrary closed-loop eigenvalues, approximates specified modal behavior and achieves low eigensystem sensitivity with respect to plant parameter variations. The method characterizes a vector space slightly larger than the null space of the closed-loop system matrix and projects a desired modal matrix onto this space. Sensitivity of eigenvalues and eigenvectors is then minimized local to the desired modal matrix using a gradient search technique. A tutorial example to illustrate the design procedure is given.

A new spectral synthesis procedure for multivariable regulators

A method for selecting a multivariable state feedback controller that simultaneously achieves an a priori specification on closed loop eigenvalues and good mode mixing is presented. The problem is solved by projecting a desired modal matrix onto a constraint set containing the null space of the closed-loop state matrix, while assuring that the projection is in the null space. The feedback matrix follows immediately in the formulation. An example involving a helicopter hover controller is presented.
