Search for a heavy neutral lepton that mixes predominantly with the tau neutrino

We report a search for a heavy neutral lepton (HNL) that mixes predominantly with ν τ . The search utilizes data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e + e − collider. The data sample was collected at and just below the center-of-mass energies of the ϒ ( 4 S ) and ϒ ( 5 S ) resonances and has an integrated luminosity of 915 fb − 1 , corresponding to ( 836 ± 12 ) × 10 6 e + e − → τ + τ − events. We search for production of the HNL (denoted N ) in the decay τ − → π − N followed by its decay via N → μ + μ − ν τ . The search focuses on the parameter-space region in which the HNL is long-lived, so that the μ + μ − originate from a common vertex that is significantly displaced from the collision point of the KEKB beams. Consistent with the expected background yield, one event is observed in the data sample after application of all the event-selection criteria. We report limits on the mixing parameter of the HNL with the τ neutrino as a function of the HNL mass. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Search for a dark leptophilic scalar produced in association with τ + τ − pair in e + e − annihilation at center-of-mass energies near 10.58 GeV

A dark leptophilic scalar ( ϕ L ) is a hypothetical particle that couples only to leptons rather than quarks. We report on a search for ϕ L in the e + e − → τ + τ − ϕ L , ϕ L → ℓ + ℓ − ( ℓ = e , μ ) process using 626 fb − 1 of data collected by the Belle experiment near the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance. We validate the backgrounds with multiple control regions in data, using a novel multiclass multivariate event classifier. In absence of a signal, we quote upper limits at the 90% confidence level on the coupling between ϕ L and leptons. Our bounds, obtained in a blinded approach, are 19% more constraining than the previous limits, averaged over the mass range 0.04 ≤ m ϕ L ≤ 6.5 GeV . We exclude the parameter space below 4 GeV favored by measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Search for baryon and lepton number violating decays D → p ℓ

We search for the baryon and lepton number violating charm decays, D → p ℓ , where D is either a D 0 or a D ¯ 0 and ℓ is a muon or an electron, using a data sample of 921 fb − 1 collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e + e − collider. In the absence of significant signals, we set upper limits on the branching fractions in the range ( 5 – 8 ) × 10 − 7 at a 90% confidence level, depending on the decay mode. Search for the double-charmonium state with ηcJ/ψ at Belle

We measure the cross section of e + e - → ηcJ/ψ at the Υ(nS)(n = 1–5) on-resonance and 10.52 GeV off-resonance energy points using the full data sample collected by the Belle detector with an integrated luminosity of 955 fb -1 . We also search for double charmonium production in e + e - → ηcJ/ψ via initial state radiation near the ηcJ/ψ threshold. No evident signal of the double charmonium state is found, but evidence for the e + e - → ηcJ/ψ process is found with a statistical significance greater than 3.3σ near the ηcJ/ψ threshold. The average cross section near the threshold is measured and upper limits of cross sections are set for other regions.

Measurement of differential distributions of B → D*$\ell\bar{v}_{\ell}$ and implications on | V cb |

We present a measurement of the differential shapes of exclusive B → D*$\ell\bar{v}_{\ell}$ (B = B - , $\bar{B}$ 0 and $\ell$ = e, μ) decays with hadronic tag-side reconstruction for the full 711 fb -1 Belle dataset. We extract the Caprini-Lellouch-Neubert (CLN) and Boyd-Grinstein-Lebed (BGL) form factor parameters and use an external input for the absolute branching fractions to determine the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element and find |V cb | CLN = (40.2 ± 0.9) x 10 -3 and |V cb | BGL = (40.7 ± 1.0) x 10 -3 with the zero-recoil lattice QCD point $\mathcal{F}$(1) = 0.906 ± 0.013. We also perform a study of the impact of beyond zero-recoil lattice QCD calculations on the |V cb | determinations. Additionally, we present the lepton-flavor universality ratio R eμ = $\mathcal{B}$(B → D*e$\bar{v}$ e )/$\mathcal{B}$(B → D*μ$\bar{v}$ μ ) = 0.993 ± 0.023 ± 0.023, the electron and muon forwardbackward asymmetry and their difference ΔA FB = 0.028 ± 0.028 ± 0.008, and the electron and muon D* longitudinal polarization fraction and their difference ΔF$^{D*}_L$ = 0.030 ± 0.025 ± 0.007. The uncertainties quoted correspond to the statistical and systematic uncertainties, respectively.

Measurement of the branching fraction and search for CP violation in D 0 → K $^{0}_{S}$ K $^{0}_{S}$ ⁢π + ⁢π - decays at Belle

We measure the branching fraction for the Cabibbo-suppressed decay D 0 → K $^{0}_{S}$ K $^{0}_{S}$ ⁢π + ⁢π - and search for CP violation via a measurement of the CP asymmetry A CP as well as the T-odd triple-product asymmetry a$^{T}_{CP}$. We use 922 fb -1 of data recorded by the Belle experiment, which ran at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + ⁢e - collider. The branching fraction is measured relative to the Cabibbo-favored normalization channel D 0 → K $^{0}_{S}$ ⁢π + ⁢π - ; the result is $\mathscr{B}$⁡( D 0 → K $^{0}_{S}$ K $^{0}_{S}$ ⁢π + ⁢π - )=[4.79±0.08⁢(stat)±0.10⁢(syst)±0.31⁢(norm)]×10 -4 , where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is from uncertainty in the normalization channel. We also measure A CP =[-2.51±1.44⁢(stat)$^{+0.11}_{-0.10}$⁢(syst)]%, and a$^{T}_{CP}$=[-1.95±1.42⁢(stat)$^{+0.14}_{-0.12}⁢$(syst)]%. These results show no evidence of CP violation.

Search for CP violation and measurement of branching fractions and decay asymmetry parameters for Λ$^+_c$ → Λ h + and Λ$^+_c$ → Σ 0 h + ( h = K, π )

Here, we report a study of Λ$^+_c$ → Λ h + and Λ$^+_c$ → Σ 0 h + ( h = K, π ) decays based on a data sample of 980 fb -1 collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e + e - collider. The first results of direct CP asymmetry in two-body singly Cabibbo-suppressed (SCS) decays of charmed baryons are measured, A$^{dir}_{CP}(Λ^+_{c} → ΛK^{+})$ = +0.021 ± 0.026 ± 0.001 and A$^{dir}_{CP}(Λ^+_{c} → Σ^{0}K^{+})$ = +0.025 ± 0.054 ± 0.004. We also make the most precise measurement of the decay asymmetry parameters (α) for the four modes of interest and search for CP violation via the α-induced CP asymmetry (A$^α_{CP}$ ). We measure A$^α_{CP}$ ($Λ^+_{c} → ΛK^{+}$) = -0.023 ± 0.086 ± 0.071 and A$^α_{CP}$ ($Λ^+_{c} → Σ^{0}K^{+}$) = +0.08 ± 0.35 ± 0.14, which are the first A$^α_{CP}$ results for SCS decays of charmed baryons. We search for Λ -hyperon CP violation in $Λ^+_{c}$ → (Λ, Σ 0 )π + and find A$^α_{CP}$(Λ → pπ - ) = +0.013 ± 0.007 ± 0.011 . This is the first time that hyperon CP violation has been measured via Cabibbo-favored charm decays. No evidence of baryon CP violation is found. We also obtain the most precise branching fractions for two SCS Λ$^+_c$ decays, $\mathscr{B}$($Λ^+_{c} → ΛK^{+}$) = (6.57 ± 0.17 ± 0.11 ± 0.35) x 10 -4 and $\mathscr{B}$($Λ^+_{c} → Σ^{0}K^{+}$) = (3.58 ± 0.19 ±0.06 ±0.19) x 10 -4 . The first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic, while the third uncertainties come from the uncertainties on the world average branching fractions of $Λ^+_{c}$ → (Λ, Σ 0 )π + .

Measurement of the mass and width of the Λ c ⁢(2625) + charmed baryon and the branching ratios of Λ c ⁢(2625) + → Σ$^{0}_{c}$π + and Λ c ⁢(2625) + → Σ$^{++}_{c}$π -

Using the entire data sample of 980 fb -1 collected at or near the Y⁡(4⁢S) resonance with the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + ⁢e - collider, we report the measurement of the mass, width, and the branching ratios of the Λ c (2625) + charmed baryon. The mass difference between Λ c ⁢(2625) + and Λ$^{+}_{c}$ is measured to be M⁡(Λ c ⁢(2625) + )-M⁡(Λ$^{+}_{c}$)=341.518±0.006±0.049 MeV/c 2 . The upper limit on the width is measured to be Γ⁡(Λ c ⁢(2625) + )<0.52 MeV/c 2 at 90% confidence level. Based on a full Dalitz plot fit, branching ratios with respect to the mode Λ c⁢ (2625) + →Λ$^{+}_{c}$π + ⁢π - are measured to be $\frac{\mathscr{B}⁡(Λ_c(2625)^+ → Σ^{0}_{c}π^+)} {\mathscr{B}⁡(Λ_c(2625)^+ → ^{+}_{c}⁢π^+⁢π^-)}$ = (5.19±0.23±0.40)% and $\frac{\mathscr{B}(Λ_c (2625)^+ → Σ{_c^+}^+ π^-)}{\mathscr{B}(Λ_c (2625)^+ → Λ{_c^+} π^+π^-)}$ = (5.13±0.26±0.32)%, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. These measurements can be used to further constrain the parameters of the underlying theoretical models.

Measurement of the branching fraction of Ξ c 0 → Λ c + π - at Belle

Based on a data sample of 983 fb -1 collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + ⁢e - collider, we present the study of the heavy-flavor-conserving decay Ξ$^{0}_{c}$ → Λ$^{+}_{c}$⁢π - with Λ$^{+}_{c}$ reconstructed via its p⁢K - π + decay mode. The branching fraction ratio $\mathscr{B}$⁡(Ξ$^{0}_{c}$ → Λ$^{+}_{c}$⁢π - )/$\mathscr{B}$⁡(Ξ$^{0}_{c}$ → Ξ - π + ) is measured to be 0.38 ±0.04 ±0.04. Combining with the world average value of $\mathscr{B}$(Ξ$^{0}_{c}$ → Ξ - π + ), the branching fraction $\mathscr{B}$⁡(Ξ$^{0}_{c}$ → Λ$^{+}_{c}$⁢π - ) is deduced to be (0.54 ±0.05 ±0.05 ±0.12)%. Here, the uncertainties above are statistical, systematic, and from $\mathscr{B}$⁡(Ξ$^{0}_{c}$ → Ξ - π + ), respectively.

Measurements of branching fractions of Λ$^{+}_{c}$ → Σ + ⁢η and Λ$^{+}_{c}$ → Σ + ⁢η' and asymmetry parameters of Λ$^{+}_{c}$ → Σ + ⁢π 0 , Λ$^{+}_{c}$ → Σ + ⁢η, and Λ$^{+}_{c}$ → Σ + ⁢η'

We report a study of Λ c + → Σ + π 0 , Λ c + → Σ + η , and Λ c + → Σ + η ' using the data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 980 fb - 1 collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e - collider. The branching fractions relative to Λ c + → Σ + π 0 are measured as B Λ c + → Σ + η / B Λ c + → Σ + π 0 = 0.25 ± 0.03 ± 0.01 and B Λ c + → Σ + η ' / B Λ c + → Σ + π 0 = 0.33 ± 0.06 ± 0.02 . Using B Λ c + → Σ + π 0 = ( 1.25 ± 0.10 ) % , we obtain B Λ c + → Σ + η = ( 3.14 ± 0.35 ± 0.17 ± 0.25 ) × 10 - 3 and B Λ c + → Σ + η ' = ( 4.16 ± 0.75 ± 0.25 ± 0.33 ) × 10 - 3 . Here the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and from B Λ c + → Σ + π 0 , respectively. The ratio of the branching fraction of Λ c + → Σ + η ' with respect to that of Λ c + → Σ + η is measured to be B Λ c + → Σ + η ' / B Λ c + → Σ + η = 1.34 ± 0.28 ± 0.08 . We update the asymmetry parameter of Λ c + → Σ + π 0 , α Σ + π 0 = - 0.48 ± 0.02 ± 0.02 , with a considerably improved precision. The asymmetry parameters of Λ c + → Σ + η and Λ c + → Σ + η ' are measured to be α Σ + η = - 0.99 ± 0.03 ± 0.05 and α Σ + η ' = - 0.46 ± 0.06 ± 0.03 for the first time.

Study of e + e - → η Φ via initial state radiation at Belle

Using 980 fb -1 of data collected on and around the (n = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) resonances with the Belle detector at the KEKB collider, we measure the cross section of e + ⁢e - → η⁢Φ from threshold to 3.95 GeV via initial state radiation. There are clear Φ⁡(1680) and J/ψ signals but no significant Φ⁡(2170) signal in the ηΦ final state. The branching fraction $\mathscr{B}$⁡[J/ψ →η⁢Φ] is measured to be (7.2 ±0.8 ±0.5) ×10 -4 . The resonant parameters of Φ⁡(1680) are determined to be m Φ(1680) = (1696±8±10) MeV/c 2 (statistical and systematic errors, respectively), Γ Φ⁡(1680) =(175±13±16) MeV and, depending on the possible presence of predominantly constructive or destructive interference between Φ⁡(1680) and continuum production, Γ$^{e^+e^-}_{Φ⁡(1680)}$·$\mathscr{B}$⁡[Φ⁡(1680)→ηΦ] and $\mathscr{B}$⁡[Φ(1680)→η⁢Φ] are determined to be (75 ±10 ±11) eV and (25±12±2)% or (207±16±20) eV and (23 ±10 ±2)%, respectively. The upper limit for Γ$^{e^+e^-}_{Φ⁡(2170)}$·$\mathscr{B}$⁡[Φ⁡(2170) → ηΦ] is determined to be either 0.17 or 18.6 eV at the 90% confidence level.
