Measuring dark neutrinos and light using external and internal components of LArTPCs

The so-called MiniBooNE low-energy excess has been a long-standing questionfor beyond Standard Model (BSM) physics in the neutrino field. The ShortBaseline Neutrino (SBN) program was proposed to investigate and provide furtherinsights into this excess. The SBN program utilises Liquid Argon Time ProjectionChamber (LArTPC) technology, which allows for precise measurements of neutrinointeractions and holds great potential for addressing significant open questions inthe field. Within the SBN program, the Short Baseline Near Detector (SBND) plays acrucial role as one of the near detector, positioned just 110 meters from the neutrinosource. Being located on the surface, SBND is exposed to cosmic-ray background, and to mitigate this, the Cosmic Ray Tagger (CRT) system has been implemented toidentify and veto cosmic background events, thereby enhancing the purity of neutrinointeractions. Additionally, the CRT system can be used to search for BSM signatures, such as the dark neutrinos, which have been proposed to explain the MiniBooNElow-energy excess. This thesis presents a novel approach for searching for darkneutrinos using existing SBND CRT data, collected with a unique setup called theCRT Beam Telescope. An extended model-independent search based on the darkneutrino analysis is also presented. The sensitivity plot for the CRT Beam Telescopeis compared with an estimated MiniBooNE exclusion limit. Furthermore, this thesiscovers the commissioning work conducted for the SBND CRT system, which is vitalfor ensuring optimal performance. The LArTPC technology also benefits from liquidargon’s excellent scintillation properties, producing abundant scintillation light. Thisthesis describes a method developed to understand the detector response to thescintillation light produced across the LArTPC, enhancing our understanding of thedetector’s performance and facilitating more accurate measurements.

MicroBooNE BNB Electron Neutrino Overlay Sample (No Wire Info)

MicroBooNE samples are provided for collaborative development in two different formats: HDF5, targeting the broadest audience, and artroot, targeting users that are familiar with the software infrastructure of Fermilab neutrino experiments and more in general of HEP experiments. The HDF5 files are stored on Zenodo, together with a list of artroot files accessible with xrootd. This sample includes simulated interactions of neutrinos from the Booster Neutrino Beam (BNB), overlaid on top of cosmic ray data. The sample is restricted to charged-current electron neutrino interactions within the argon active volume of the time projection chamber. The HDF5 files in this sample do not include the information at the wire waveform level ("NoWire" label), allowing for larger number of events to be included in the data set.More documentation, including detailed description of content, recipes, and example usage, at https://github.com/uboone/OpenSamples.Suggested text for acknowledgment is the following:We acknowledge the MicroBooNE Collaboration for making publicly available the data sets [data set DOIs] employed in this work. These data sets consist of simulated neutrino interactions from the Booster Neutrino Beamline overlaid on top of cosmic data collected with the MicroBooNE detector [2017 JINST 12 P02017].In addition, we request that software products resulting from the usage of the datasets are also made publicly available.

MicroBooNE BNB Inclusive Overlay Sample (With Wire Info)

MicroBooNE samples are provided for collaborative development in two different formats: HDF5, targeting the broadest audience, and artroot, targeting users that are familiar with the software infrastructure of Fermilab neutrino experiments and more in general of HEP experiments. The HDF5 files are stored on Zenodo, together with a list of artroot files accessible with xrootd. This sample includes simulated interactions of neutrinos from the Booster Neutrino Beam (BNB), overlaid on top of cosmic ray data. The sample is inclusive, i.e. it includes all types of neutrinos and interactions, with relative abundance matching our nominal flux and cross section models. Interactions are simulated in in the whole cryostat volume. The HDF5 files in this sample include the information at the wire waveform level (after deconvolution and finding of regions of interest). As this information significantly increases the file size, this sample contains about 17% of the events of the corresponding sample without wire information.More documentation, including detailed description of content, recipes, and example usage, at https://github.com/uboone/OpenSamples.Suggested text for acknowledgment is the following:We acknowledge the MicroBooNE Collaboration for making publicly available the data sets [data set DOIs] employed in this work. Scheduling and Airport Taxiway Path Planning Under Uncertainty

Congestion and uncertainty on the airport surface are major constraints to the available capacity of the air transport system. This project is to study the problem of planning and scheduling airport surface movement at large airports. Specifically, we focus on the departure time scheduling and taxiway path planning of multiple aircraft under uncertainty. We also developed a simulation tool that is capable of simulating aircraft movement along the taxiway and possible uncertainty during the movement.
