Temperature Climatology of The Middle Atmosphere From Long-Term Lidar Measurements at Mid-and Low-Latitudes

Sudden seasonal transitions, highly consistent between all instruments, have been observed. In particular, in the early winter mid-latitudes a two-step warming of the winter mesosphere between 65 and 85 km as well as a cooling of the lower mesosphere appear to be real climatological events rather than some short-term geophysical or instrumental random variability.

Climatology of the Middle Atmospheric Temperature Obtained from Lidar Measurements at Mid- and Low-Latitudes

The middle atmospheric temperature structure has been studied for several decades now. It started with rocketsondes measurements, providing temperature profiles up to 60 km but with relatively poor accuracy [Schmidlin, 1981], and falling spheres allowing reaching 90 km of altitude.

Evaluation and Optimization of Lidar Temperature Analysis Algorithms Using Simulated Data

Temperature lidar data have been simulated in order to test the JPL (SO3ANL version 3.2) and CNRS/SA (TEMPER version 2.1) lidar temperature analysis software.
