In January 2000, the STEP for Aerospace Workshop at JPL brought together representatives from the standards developer, tool vendors and user community. It served as the catalyst for further STEP implementation activities in NASA. The most mature of these activities is the US STEP-TAS pilot. The current status of this pilot and future plans are reported in this paper.

Two years ago at ICES 97, a paper was presented describing the status of two companion open standards for electronic exchange and archival of space engineering data based on STEP (ISO-10303) technology. This paper presents background information on STEP and demonstrate the thermal model exchange between ESA and NASA.
