Space Interferometer Mission (SIM) scheduled for launch in 2006, is one of the premiere missions in the Origins Program, NASA's endeavor to understand the origins of the galaxies, of planetary systems around distant stars, and perhaps the origins of life itself.
The Next Generation Space Telescope will provide more than ten times the collecting area of the Hubble Space Telescope in a package that fits into the shroud of an expendable launch vehicle. This paper illustrates the operation and performance expected for initial telescope alignment, segment phasing, and fine figure control for the NGST yardstick design.
Existing and new mode shape expansion methods are presented within the framework of least squares minimization techniques with quadratic inequality constraints.
Several methods for mode shape expansion are investigated. Dynamic equations of motions are used to obtain direct solutions to the expanded eigenvectors.
