Test results of high-voltage, high-power, solid-state remote power controllers

This report discusses the results of testing high-voltage, high-power, solid-state remote power controllers (RPC) using RPCs designed and built by John C. Sturman at the Lewis Research Center, Cleveland, Ohio, and utilizing the Autonomously Managed Power Systems (AMPS) breadboard/test facility. These test results are used to determine usefulness of the RPCs for future applications in high-voltage direct-current space power.

An automated dynamic load for power system development

This paper describes a dynamic load which is computer-controlled and has an increased bandwidth of more than 10 times that commercially available at the time the development of the project began. The load is 3 kW with a bandwidth of 35 kHz. The hardware and software are described, and the control circuitry is shown.

Minimizing the total harmonic distortion for a 3 kW, 20 kHz ac to dc converter using SPICE

This paper describes the SPICE model of a transformer-rectified-filter (TRF) circuit and the Micro-CAP (Microcomputer Circuit Analysis Program) model and their application. The models were used to develop an actual circuit with reduced input current THD. The SPICE analysis consistently predicted the THD improvements in actual circuits as various designs were attempted. In an effort to predict and verify load regulation, the incorporation of saturable inductor models significantly improved the fidelity of the TRF circuit output voltage.
