Thermal barrier and gas seal

Resilient baglike seal tolerates thousand-degree temperatures and accommodates small changes in gap size without losing gas-barrier properties; at same time, it maintains smooth aerodynamic surface across gap. Seal includes alumina filler backed by metal plate. Alumina-filled envelope is easily handled and installed, and can be used in high-temperature industrial processes like coal gasification and liquefaction.

Thermal barrier pressure seal

An apparatus is described for providing thermal and pressure sealing in an elongated space of varying width between adjacent surface of two members. The apparatus is mounted for at least limited lateral movement between the members and may comprise: an elongated support attached to one of the adjacent surfaces; a second elongated support member attached to the other of the adjacent surfaces, and an elongated seal member sandwiched between the first and second support members. In its non-deformed state, the elongated seal member may be substantially cylindrical but capable of deformation to accommodate limited lateral movement between the adjacent surfaces and varying widths of the space.

Flexible heat-and-pressure seal

Device withstands both heat and pressure and accomodates relative motion between seated surfaces. Seal consists of flexible tube filled with thermally insulating material and coated with pressure resistant materials.

Metallic thermal seal

Thermal barrier, constructed of U-shaped metal strips and room temperature-vulcanized silicon rubber, prevents hot gas from escaping through gaps. In application metallic barrier could be used to prevent heat from escaping through gaps around door, windows, partitions, and similar structures.
