Uniaxial Spin Texture in a Superconducting Electron Gas Revealed by Exchange Interactions

Two-dimensional (2D) superconductors with spin-textured Fermi surfaces can be a platform for realizing unconventional pairing states and are of substantial interest in the context of quantum information science and superconducting spintronics/orbitronics. We observed an unusual in-plane uniaxial anisotropy in the superconducting 2D electron gas (2DEG) formed at EuOx/KTaO3 (110) interfaces. This anisotropy is not evident in AlOx/KTaO3 (110) where the overlayer is nonmagnetic. Our results are consistent with a highly anisotropic “half-Rashba” spin-textured Fermi surface in 2DEGs formed at the KTaO3 (110) interface that is hidden from external magnetic fields due to a near cancellation between orbital and spin moments but revealed by exchange interactions of the electrons in the 2DEG with Eu moments near the EuOx/KTaO3 (110) interface. The interactions between the uniaxial spin texture and the magnetic overlayer offer previously unexplored ways to explore the interplay between magnetism and 2D superconductivity.

Slow-Wave Hybrid Magnonics

Cavity magnonics is an emerging research area focusing on the coupling between magnons and photons. Despite its great potential for coherent information processing, it has been long restricted by the narrow interaction bandwidth. Here, in this Letter, we theoretically propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel approach to achieve broadband photon-magnon coupling by adopting slow waves on engineered microwave waveguides. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that slow wave is combined with hybrid magnonics. Its unique properties promise great potentials for both fundamental research and practical applications, for instance, by deepening our understanding of the light -matter interaction in the slow wave regime and providing high -efficiency spin wave transducers. The device concept can be extended to other systems such as optomagnonics and magnomechanics, opening up new directions for hybrid magnonics.

Spin dynamics in quantum dots on liquid helium

Liquid He-4 is free from magnetic defects, making it an ideal substrate for electrons with long-lived spin states. Such states can serve as qubit states. Here, in this study, we consider the spin states of electrons electrostatically localized in quantum dots on a helium surface. Efficient gate operations in this system require spin-orbit coupling. It can be created by a nonuniform magnetic field from a current-carrying wire, can be turned on and off, and allows one to obtain large electrodipole moment and comparatively fast coupling of spins in neighboring dots. Of central importance is to understand spin decay due to the spin-orbit coupling. We establish the leading mechanism of such decay and show that the decay is sufficiently slow to enable high-fidelity single- and two-qubit gate operations.
