Si III OV Bright Line of Scattering Polarized Light That Has Been Observed in the CLASP and Its Center-to-Limb Variation

The CLASP (Chromospheric Lyman-Alpha Spectro- Polarimeter) rocket experiment, in addition to the ultraviolet region of the Ly alpha emission line (121.57 nm), emission lines of Si III (120.65 nm) and OV (121.83 nm) is can be observed. These are optically thin line compared to a Ly alpha line, if Rarere captured its polarization, there is a possibility that dripping even a new physical diagnosis chromosphere-transition layer. In particular, OV bright light is a release from the transition layer, further, three P one to one S(sub 0) is a forbidden line (cross-triplet transition between lines), it was not quite know whether to polarization.

Development of Flight Slit-Jaw Optics for Chromospheric Lyman-Alpha SpectroPolarimeter

In sounding rocket experiment CLASP, I have placed a slit a mirror-finished around the focal point of the telescope. The light reflected by the mirror surface surrounding the slit is then imaged in Slit-jaw optical system, to obtain the a-ray Lyman secondary image. This image, not only to use the real-time image in rocket flight rocket oriented direction selection, and also used as a scientific data showing the spatial structure of the Lyman alpha emission line intensity distribution and solar chromosphere around the observation area of the polarimetric spectroscope. Slit-jaw optical system is a two off-axis mirror unit part including a parabolic mirror and folding mirror, Lyman alpha transmission filter, the optical system magnification 1x consisting camera. The camera is supplied from the United States, and the other was carried out fabrication and testing in all the Japanese side. Chromospheric Lyman-Alpha SpectroPolarimeter (CLASP)

Chromosphere, the transition layer of the sun is a region to switch to the magnetic pressure dominated from plasma pressure dominated, simultaneous observation of the detailed magnetic field measurement and plasma of dynamic phenomenon here is what is the frontier of the next solar physics. As This is a challenge that has just mentioned, even the next solar observation satellite plan SOLAR-C, in the experiments we had used a NASA sounding rocket for the first time in the SOLAR-C plan, will address the chromosphere-transition layer magnetic field measurement there. It is, is a Chromospheric Lyman-Alpha Spectro-Polarimeter (CLASP) plan, the linear polarization of Lyman 􀉲 emission lines chromosphere-transition layer shoots (121.6nm) were detected in 0.1 percent of high accuracy, a new technique called Hanre effect I get the magnetic field information of chromosphere-transition layer. In Japan, the US and Europe joint observation in November 2012 as a rocket experiment is adopted to NASA this plan that full-scale start-up, start from assembly work is 2014 spring flight observation device, currently, it is where the alignment of the optical elements have been implemented. After this, it is planned to continue with the performance evaluation towards the observation implementation of summer 2015. In addition to once again explain the contents of the plan In this presentation, we report an overview of the entire development and preparation current status.

Observations from Hinode and SDO of a Twisting and Writhing Start to a Solar-filament-eruption Cascade

Active region eruption of 1 June 2011. Ejective eruption. GOES class C4.1 flare. SDO/AIA, various filters (94, 131, 171, 193, 211, 304, 335 Ang.) High time cadence (24 s) and high spatial resolution (0 .6 pixels). SDO/HMI line-of-sight magnetograms. Hinode observed the onset, and the later decay phase. There are two filament eruptions (filament 1 and filament 2). Filament 1 has slow rise with steps, as in several previous cases. GOES "episodes" play role of "microflares" in other events; that is, filament jumps <=> intensity peaks. Episode 1 brightening: Accompanied by filament 1 s initial motions. (Rest of talk.) Filament 1 becomes unstable, and.. Episode 2 brightening: Flare ribbons following filament 1 s fast liftoff. This destabilizes neighboring filament 2, and... Episode 3 brightening: Flare ribbons of whole system following filament 2 s eruption.Something leads to reconnection; not totally clear what. Reconnection -> twisted flux rope in approx.20 min; episode 1 microflare (flare ribbons; TC) and filament jump. Twist -> writhe, via kink instability; filament-trajectory plateau, approx. 20 min. Writhe -> jump and eruption of filament 1, via instability; episode 2 microflare (flare ribbons; TC). (E.g., Williams et al.) First eruption -> second filament eruption (episode 3 flare ribbons; TC). (E.g., Sterling, Moore; Liu et al.; Torok et al.; Schrijver & Title.). Estimate amount of free energy in newly-twisted field (cf. Moore 1988): where we have taken L and r = 50, 3 arcsec. Energy of the total system is likely 1030 ergs or more. So "no" is answer to question. Additional energy comes from remainder of sheared large loop, shear (free energy) of second filament, etc. (Normally assumed situation.) Some history of twist-induced instability in filament eruptions: e.g., Sakurai, Torok & Kliem, Fan & Gibson, Gilbert et al., van Driel-Gesztelyi et al. Criterion : Kink instability for line-tied tube (Hood & Priest): 2.5pi; for Titov & Demoulin loop (Torok et al): approx.3.5pi We observe here: approx.1.5 turns (3.0pi) over ~50. => consistent with kink instability acting. (Cf. Srivastava et al. (2010): Small flare seen in TRACE and Hinode: approx.6.0pi)

Temperature structure of active regions deduced from helium-like sulphur lines

Solar active-region temperatures have been determined from the full-Sun spectra of helium-like sulfur (S XV) observed by the Bragg Crystal Spectrometer on Board the Yohkoh satellite. The average temperature deduced from S XV is demonstrated to vary with the solar activity level: A temperature of 2.5 x 10(exp 6) K is derived from the spectra taken during low solar activity, similar to the general corona, while 4 x 10(exp 6) K is obtained during a higher activity phase. For the latter, the high- temperature tail of the differential emission measure of active regions is found most likely due to the superposition of numerous flare-like events (micro/nano-flares).

Observation of a solar flare at the limb with the Yohkoh Soft X-ray Telescope

A long-enduring soft X-ray flare at the solar limb was well observed by the Soft X-ray Telescope aboard the Yohkoh spacecraft from the preflare stage through the postflare phase. A 'helmet streamer' arch appears several hours prior to the flare, in association with a continuous expansion and restructuring of the active-region magnetic structure. This arch then starts to flare, and increases its height and footpoint separation at v = 10-30 km/s. The arch has a complex temperature structure in the rising phase, whereas the outer arches have systematically higher temperatures in the decay phase. Magnetic reconnection in a neutral sheet at the loop top, created by preflare magnetic restructuring, would explain this type of flare.
