When the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System (TDRSS)is completed, the system, together with its various NASA support elements will be known simply as the Space Networks. It will substantially increase information exchanges between low-orbiting spacecraft and the ground. The structural design, functions, earth-based links, and present and future use are discussed.
Spacelab was planned and constructed to serve as a suitable host for significant scientific research and technological development. As intended by its European builders and by its American operators, this new facility will serve scientists from many nations and in many scientific disciplines and technological specialties. Spacelab is the outgrowth of steady evolution of space technology. It enables scientists and engineers to go into space for in-orbit research with their own hands and eye-with instruments they have designed and built.
The mission, background, and spacecraft of the Apollo Soyuz Test Project are summarized. Scientific experiments onboard the spacecraft are reviewed, along with reentry procedures. A small biography of each of the five astronauts (U.S. and Russian) is also presented.
