A spectroscopic instrumentation system was developed which was used to measure temperature and concentration distributions in axisymmetric and two dimensional combusting flows. This measurement technique is known as zone radiometry.
A basic description is given of the mathematical tools and models which are presently used to represent turbulent, free shear layers. Recommendations are included for ways in which current modeling techniques can be improved.
The results of a stagnation-line analysis of the radiative heating of a phenolic-nylon ablator are reported. The analysis includes flowfield coupling with the ablator surface, equilibrium chemistry, multicomponent or binary diffusion and a coupled line and continuum radiation calculations. Users manual and operating instructions for the computer programs listed in the report are included.
