Implementation of a Very Large Atmospheric Correction Lookup Table for ASTER Using a Relational Database Management System

The Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER)is designed to provide a high resolution map of the Earth in both visible, near-infrared, and thermal spectral regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. The ASTER Science Team has developed several standard data product algorithms, but the most complex aod computing-intensive of these is the estimation of surface radiance and reflectance values, which is done by modeling and correcting for the effects of the atmosphere. The algorithm for atmospheric correction in the visible bands sensed by ASTER calls for use of a very large Atmospheric Correction Look Up Table (ACLUT).

Rotating Capacitor Measures Steady Electric Fields

Portable sensor measures electric fields created by dc powerlines or other dc-high-voltage sources. Measures fields from 70 to 50,000 V/m with linearity of 2 percent. Sensor used at any height above ground. Measures both magnitude and direction of field and provides signals representing these measurements to remote readout device. Sensor functions with minimal disturbance of field it is measuring.

A 250-Mbit/s ring local computer network using 1.3-microns single-mode optical fibers

A 250-Mbit/s three-station fiber-optic ring local computer network was built and successfully demonstrated. A conventional token protocol was employed for bus arbitration to maximize the bus efficiency under high loading conditions, and a non-return-to-zero (NRS) data encoding format was selected for simplicity and maximum utilization of the ECL-circuit bandwidth.
