High-Order/Low-Dissipation Chain-Rule Flux Solution Reconstruction Schemes in FUN3D

In this paper, we report progress in the development of economically high-order flux-solution-reconstruction (FSR) schemes, which are second-order accurate on general unstructured grids but achieve high-order accuracy when a grid is regular, i.e., has the same stencil (with the same spacing) throughout the domain. Two variants of the FSR schemes are discussed: chain-rule-flux-solution reconstruction (CFSR) and quadratic-form-flux-solution reconstruction (QFSR), where the former is based on the chain rule and the latter on the flux reconstruction expressed as a function of solution variables. These schemes are tested for flows with shock waves with a limiter incorporated in the flux and solution reconstructions. Improved results, compared with second-order methods are demonstrated for inviscid and viscous flows with smooth grids.

Finite-Volume Diffusion Schemes for Svard's Eulerian Governing Equations

This paper, contains discussion on the implementation of new diffusion schemes for Svard’s Eulerian flow (EF) governing equations. It contains an alpha-damping type scheme and a new hyperbolic Eulerian flow (HEF) discretization paralleling previous work on hyperbolic Navier-Stokes (HNS). It shows these equations have simplified hyperbolic discretizations due to the simplicity of the new stress tensor and compares these schemes to established Navier-Stokes (NS) discretizations to verify the predictive utilities of such diffusion schemes.

FUN3D Manual: 14.0.2

This manual describes the installation and execution of FUN3D version 14.0.2, including optional dependent packages. FUN3D is a suite of computational fluid dynamics simulation and design tools that uses mixed-element unstructured grids in a large number of formats, including structured multiblock and overset grid systems. A discretely-exact adjoint solver may be used for formal design optimization, error estimation, and mesh adaptation. FUN3D also offers a reacting, real-gas capability and provides GPU acceleration of many common simulation options.

Economical Third-Order Methods for Accurate Surface Heating Predictions on Simplex Element Meshes

A node-centered edge-based finite volume discretization of the compressible Navier-Stokes equations is presented with the heat flux reformulated as a first order system. A dissipation vector is derived for the reformulated system, such that the heat flux can be upgraded to O(h^3) on simplex element meshes in the same fashion as the inviscid fluxes. The method of manufactured solutions is used to demonstrate this uniform order property in heat flux. This new system is shown to efficiently produce accurate surface heating predictions on hypersonic hemisphere flow using an anisotropic simplex element mesh, achieving O(h^3) accuracy at relatively low computational cost compared to similar methods.
