High-resolution fully-polarimetric synthetic aperture radar dataset

Fully-polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) data contain a rich body of elementary scattering physics information that is critically valuable for a broad range of applications and scientific purposes. However, there is a lack of available high-resolution (< 0.3048-m) data available for PolSAR phenomenology research. This article introduces a high-resolution PolSAR data set collected and provided by Sandia National Laboratories (SNL). The data sets were collected to support studying high-resolution scattering physics from different types of clutter and applications such as polarimetric-based terrain classification.

GDSA Repository Systems Analysis Investigations in FY 2024

The Disposal Research and Development (R&D) Program of the US Department of Energy (DOE) office of Nuclear Energy (NE-8) Spent Fuel and Waste Science and Technology (SFWST) Campaign is to conduct R&D on disposal of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) and high-level waste (HLW). The goal of the Geologic Disposal Safety Assessment (GDSA) within this project is to develop a disposal system modeling and analysis capability that supports the integrated modeling of coupled processes controlling disposal system performance of deep geologic repositories, including uncertainty. This report describes specific activities in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 associated with the GDSA Repository Systems Analysis (RSA) work package. The overall objective of the GDSA RSA work package is to develop generic deep geologic repository concepts and repository system performance models in crystalline, argillite, salt, and unsaturated alluvium potential host-rock environments, and to simulate and analyze these generic repository concepts and models using GDSA Framework toolkit, and other tools as needed.

Advances in GDSA Framework Development and Process Model Integration

The Spent Fuel and Waste Science and Technology (SFWST) Campaign of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Nuclear Energy (NE), Office of Spent Fuel & Waste Disposition (SFWD) is conducting research and development (R&D) on geologic disposal of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) and highlevel nuclear waste (HLW). A high priority for SFWST disposal R&D is to develop a disposal system modeling and analysis capability for evaluating disposal system performance for nuclear waste in geologic media. This report describes fiscal year (FY) 2020 advances of the Geologic Disposal Safety Assessment (GDSA) Framework and PFLOTRAN development groups of the SFWST Campaign. The common mission of these groups is to develop a geologic disposal system modeling capability for nuclear waste that can be used to probabilistically assess the performance of disposal options and generic sites. The capability is a framework called GDSA Framework that employs high-performance computing (HPC) capable codes PFLOTRAN and Dakota.

Constructing a conforming Voronoi mesh for an arbitrarily-shaped enclosed geometric domain

A computing system is described herein, where the computing system includes a processor and memory storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform the following acts: 1) receiving a computer-implemented definition of an enclosed geometric domain, wherein the geometric domain is two-dimensional; 2) determining locations of seeds for the enclosed geometric domain; 3) decomposing the enclosed geometric domain into a conforming Voronoi mesh based on the locations of the seeds, wherein the conforming Voronoi mesh comprises Voronoi cells, and further wherein the conforming Voronoi mesh is bounded by the enclosed domain; and 4) performing a numerical simulation to generate simulation results, wherein the numerical simulation is based on at least one Voronoi cell in the Voronoi cells of the conforming Voronoi mesh.

Constructing a conforming voronoi mesh for an arbitrarily-shaped enclosed geometric domain

A computing system is described herein, where the computing system includes a processor and memory storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform the following acts: 1) receiving a computer-implemented definition of an enclosed geometric domain, wherein the geometric domain is three-dimensional; 2) determining locations of seeds for the enclosed geometric domain; 3) decomposing the enclosed geometric domain into a conforming Voronoi mesh based on the locations of the seeds, wherein the conforming Voronoi mesh comprises Voronoi cells, and further wherein the conforming Voronoi mesh is bounded by the enclosed domain; and 4) performing a numerical simulation to generate simulation results, wherein the numerical simulation is based on at least one Voronoi cell in the Voronoi cells of the conforming Voronoi mesh.
