Axial gas transport plays a crucial role in determining pressure equilibrium in nuclear fuel rods. Permeability is currently determined a posteriori. Current models assume instantaneous pressure equilibrium and laminar flow.
This document is an American Nuclear Society (ANS) transaction for the ANS annual conference. This transaction provides an overview of the Modeling and Measurement of Axial Gas Transport Laboratory Directed Research and Development project including preliminary modeling results. The goal is to provide model for axial gas transport in the Bison Fuel Performance code to support industry's desire to achieve higher burnups in existing light water reactors. A brief overview of the experimental approach and associated modeling activities is presented.
