Device Rotates Bearing Balls For Inspection

Entire surface of ball inspected automatically and quickly. Device holds and rotates bearing ball for inspection by optical or mechanical surface-quality probe, eddy-current probe for detection of surface or subsurface defects, or circumference-measuring tool. Ensures entire surface of ball moves past inspection head quickly. New device saves time and increases reliability of inspections of spherical surfaces. Simple to operate and provides quick and easy access for loading and unloading of balls during inspection.

Switching Circuit for Shop Vacuum System

No internal connections to machine tools required. Switching circuit controls vacuum system draws debris from grinders and sanders in machine shop. Circuit automatically turns on vacuum system whenever at least one sander or grinder operating. Debris safely removed, even when operator neglects to turn on vacuum system manually. Pickup coils sense alternating magnetic fields just outside operating machines. Signal from any coil or combination of coils causes vacuum system to be turned on.

Portable hydraulic tube expander expands small, thick-walled tubes in hard-to-reach locations. Tool particularly useful in situations where mechanical expander too fragile to produce desired expansion.

Electrochemical Deburring

Electrochemical deburring removes burrs from assembled injector tubes. Since process uses liquid anodic dissolution in liquid electrolyte to proide deburring action, smoothes surfaces and edges in otherwise inaccessible areas. Tool consists of sleeve that contains metallic ring cathode. Sleeve is placed over tube, and electrolytic solution is forced to flow between tube and sleeve. The workpiece serves an anode.

Contamination Control During Weld Repairs

Using internal pressure, weld defects in pipes or tanks are repaired without contaminating interiors that cannot be protected or recleaned. Procedure can be used with pipes or tubing that is attached to components with critical internal clearances. Method has also been successfully used to cut completely through a pipe with a handsaw.

Electron-beam welder circle generator

Generator rotates electron beam and performs other convenient functions during welding process. Device eliminates time-consuming techniques relying heavily on operator's skill. Welding speed is varied with frequency selector, and amplitudes of x- and y-axes are varied by adjusting phase shift. Both high and low-range adjustments are available, and each axis can be separately controlled. Crosshair is provided for set-up and beam alinements.

Switchbox for welding torches

Switchbox can be used to change from one welding torch setup to another without stopping production line. Simple flip of switch connects gas, water, and power to selected torch. In conventional systems, production must be stopped so that maintenance people can disconnect and reconnect another torch.
