A Review of Polyurethane Aging Studies

Polyurethanes are woven into today’s society through apparel, automotives, adhesives, and more. Conducting aging studies of polyurethanes allow scientists and engineers to determine the degradation resistance of the polymer. Polyurethane foams, adhesives, and elastomers consistently undergo aging studies in industry to ensure the upkeep and quality. This literature review is to focus on the aging studies of polyurethane foams, adhesives, and elastomers.

Review of Polyurethanes

Polyurethanes are used in almost every aspect of our everyday lives and have advanced areas including construction, medicine, automotive, marine, and apparel. Rigid and flexible polyurethane foams, rubbers, thermoplastic polyurethanes and many more are in everything from our couches, car steering wheels, even the soles of our shoes. This literature review is to discuss the discovery of polyurethane chemistry, today’s uses, and advancements.
