Effects of diffusion factor, aspect ratio and solidity on overall performance of 14 compressor middle stages

A series of high hub tip radius ratio compressor stages representative of the middle and latter stages of axial flow compressors is discussed. The effects of aspect ratio, diffusion factor, and solidity on rotor and stage performance are determined. Fourteen middle stages are tested to study the effects on performance of varying both diffusion through the rotor and stator blades and blade aspect ratio. The design parameters in the streamline analysis program, the blade geometry program, and the blade coordinate program are presented.

Data summary and computer program for axial-flow pump rotor performance

Assembly of noncavitating blade element performance data for axial-flow pump rotor configurations has been collected and organized. Program facilitates handling large amounts of experimental data involved and may be used as data reduction program to process flow and performance measurements from other axial-flow pump configurations.

Fluid mechanics, acoustics, and design of turbomachinery, part 1

A conference was conducted to analyze the effects of air flow on turbomachinery design. The subjects discussed are: (1) equations for compressible flow through turbomachines, (2) influence of axial velocity ratio on cascade performance, (3) three dimensional flow in transonic axial compressor blade rows, (4) prediction of turbulent shear layers in turbomachines, and (5) boundary layers in centrifugal compressors.

Fluid mechanics, acoustics, and design of turbomachinery, part 2

A conference was conducted to investigate various parameters involved in the design of turbomachinery. The acoustic properties of compressor rotors at subsonic speeds are described to show the sources of sound in fluid flows and sound radiation from the rotors. The design criteria for turbomachinery are examined to show impeller design methods, transonic compressor technology, and blade selection for an axial flow compressor. Specific applications of turbomachinery used as pumps for aerospace applications and turbomachinery for marine propulsion are described.

Summary of design and blade-element performance data for 12 axial-flow pump rotor configurations

A collection of noncavitating blade-element performance data for 12 axial-flow pump rotor configurations is presented in tabular form. Rotor design philosophy, test apparatus and procedure, and data reduction and evaluation are discussed. A data storage and recall computer program is described. All but one of the rotor configurations considered were composed of double-circular-arc blade sections and were designed for high inlet relative flow angles. Hub-tip radius ranged from 0.40 to 0.90.
