Separation of a target substance from a fluid or mixture using encapsulated sorbents

Method and apparatus for separating a target substance from a fluid or mixture. Capsules having a coating and stripping solvents encapsulated in the capsules are provided. The coating is permeable to the target substance. The capsules having a coating and stripping solvents encapsulated in the capsules are exposed to the fluid or mixture. The target substance migrates through the coating and is taken up by the stripping solvents. The target substance is separated from the fluid or mixture by driving off the target substance from the capsules.

Using colloidal silica as a zonal isolation material and fast path blocker in geological formations

A system for blocking fast flow paths in geological formations includes preparing a solution of colloidal silica having a nonviscous phase and a solid gel phase. The solution of colloidal silica is injected into the geological formations while the solution of colloidal silica is in the nonviscous phase. The solution of colloidal silica is directed into the fast flow paths and reaches the solid gel phase in the fast flow paths thereby blocking flow of fluid in the fast paths.

Aqueous alteration on the hydrous asteroids - Results of EQ3/6 computer simulations

The two models of carbonaceous chondrite precursor material presently formulated to study the process of aqueous alteration in hydrous asteroids are based, in the first case, on the anhydrous mineralogy of CM chondrites, while the second is based on that of the CV chondrites. It is noted that the alteration mineralogy of the CM chondrites and their parent asteroids may be produced by starting with the anhydrous mineralogy of the same CM chondrites, at temperatures in the 1-25 C range, with a wide variety of rock/fluid ratios. The mineralogy of the important CI chondrites is reproducible through the alteration of either CM or CV anhydrous material, at temperatures in the 50-150 C.
