Automatic computer controlled testing of spacecraft and experiments

Autotest is a flexible, fully automatic, programmable test system. It is externally controlled by a mnemonic test language. Once started, tests can run to completion without further manual intervention. Autotest can be operated manually as well as in automatic mode. Autotest can be adapted to a wide variety of test requirements. Though originally designed to test the Atmosphere Explorer (AE) spacecraft and experiments, autotest can easily be modified to test any electronic device suitable for automated computer testing.

AUTOTEST - Fully automated testing of spacecraft and experiments

AUTOTEST is a large scale real-time computer program designed to automatically test spacecraft and experiments. Resident portions of the program collect and store incoming real-time data and process test control instructions which control experiment turn-on, select tests to be performed, and select data to be displayed.

Automatic computer controlled testing of spacecraft and experiments

This paper describes the AUTOTEST system, a large-scale real-time testing system that was originally designed to test the Atmosphere Explorer spacecraft and experiments. It is noted that AUTOTEST is a flexible, fully automatic, programmable system that is externally controlled by a mnemonic test language and can be operated manually as well as automatically. The use of spacecraft simulators in this system is described together with the software and a sample test program. Advantages of AUTOTEST in terms of operational simplicity and low costs are discussed.
