First Determination of the Spin-Parity of Ξ c ( 3055 ) + , 0 Baryons

The Ξ b 0 ( − ) → Ξ c ( 3055 ) + ( 0 ) ( → D + ( 0 ) Λ ) π − decay chains are observed, and the spin-parity of Ξ c ( 3055 ) + ( 0 ) baryons is determined for the first time. The measurement is performed using proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of s = 13 TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb − 1 , recorded by the LHCb experiment between 2016 and 2018. The spin-parity of the Ξ c ( 3055 ) + ( 0 ) baryons is determined to be 3 / 2 + with a significance of more than 6.5 σ ( 3.5 σ ) compared to all other tested hypotheses. The up-down asymmetries of the Ξ b 0 ( − ) → Ξ c ( 3055 ) + ( 0 ) π − transitions are measured to be − 0.92 ± 0.10 ± 0.05 ( − 0.92 ± 0.16 ± 0.22 ), consistent with maximal parity violation, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. These results support the hypothesis that the Ξ c ( 3055 ) + ( 0 ) baryons correspond to the first D -wave λ -mode excitation of the Ξ c flavor triplet. © 2025 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration 2025 CERN

Observation of muonic Dalitz decays of chib mesons and precise spectroscopy of hidden-beauty states

The decays of the χb1 (1P), χb2 (1P), χb1 (2P) and χb2 (2P) mesons into the Υ(1S)μ + μ − final state are observed with a high significance using proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb −1 . The newly observed decays together with the Υ(2S) → Υ(1S)π + π − and Υ(3S) → Υ(2S)π+π− decay modes are used for precision measurements of the mass and mass splittings for the hidden-beauty states.

Transverse polarization measurement of Λ hyperons in pNe collisions at $\sqrt{{\textrm{s}}_{\textrm{NN}}}$ = 68.4 GeV with the LHCb detector

A measurement of the transverse polarization of the Λ and $\bar{Λ}$ hyperons in p Ne fixed-target collisions at $\sqrt{{\textrm{s}}_{\textrm{NN}}}$ = 68.4 GeV is presented using data collected by the LHCb detector. The polarization is studied using the decay Λ → p $π$ − together with its charge conjugated process, the integrated values measured are $P_Λ = 0.029 ± 0.019$ (stat) $±$ $0.012$ (syst), $P_{\bar{Λ}} = 0.003 ± 0.023$ (stat) $±$ $0.014$ (syst). Furthermore, the results are shown as a function of the Feynman x variable, transverse momentum, pseudorapidity and rapidity of the hyperons, and are compared with previous measurements.

Measurements of the branching fraction ratio $$ \mathcal{B}\left(\phi \to {\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)/\mathcal{B}\left(\phi \to {\textrm{e}}^{+}{\textrm{e}}^{-}\right) $$ with charm meson decays

Abstract Measurements of the branching fraction ratio$$ \mathcal{B}\left(\phi \to {\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)/\mathcal{B}\left(\phi \to {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\right) $$ B ϕ → μ + μ − / B ϕ → e + e − with$$ {D}_s^{+}\to {\pi}^{+}\phi $$ D s + → π + ϕ andD + → π + ϕdecays, denoted$$ {R}_{\phi \pi}^s $$ R ϕπ s and$$ {R}_{\phi \pi}^d $$ R ϕπ d , are presented. The analysis is performed using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb −1 ofppcollision data collected with the LHCb experiment. The branching fractions are normalised with respect to theB + →K + J/ψ(→e + e − ) andB + →K + J/ψ(→μ + μ − ) decay modes. The combination of the results yields$$ {R}_{\phi \pi}=1.022\pm 0.012\left(\textrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.048\left(\textrm{syst}\right). $$ R ϕπ = 1.022 ± 0.012 stat ± 0.048 syst . The result is compatible with previous measurements of theϕ→ℓ + ℓ − branching fractions and predictions based on the Standard Model.

Search for the rare decays $W^+ → D^+_s \gamma$ and $Z → D^0 \gamma$ at LHCb

A search for the rare decays $W^+ → D^+_s \gamma$ and $Z → D^0 \gamma$ is performed using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of 13TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0fb -1 . No significant signal is observed for either decay mode and upper limits on their branching fractions are set using W⁺ → μ⁺v and Z → μ⁺μ⁻ decays as normalization channels. The upper limits are 6.5 x 10 -4 and 2.1 x 10 -3 at 95% confidence level for the $W^+ → D^+_s \gamma$ and $Z → D^0 \gamma$ decay modes, respectively. This is the first reported search for the $Z → D^0 \gamma$ decay, while the upper limit on the branching fraction $W^+ → D^+_s \gamma$ improves upon the previous best limit.

Search for the lepton-flavour violating decays B 0 → K *0 τ ± μ ∓

A first search for the lepton-flavour violating decays B 0 → K*0 τ ± μ ∓ is presented. The analysis is performed using a sample of proton-proton collision data, collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb –1 . No significant signal is observed, and upper limits on the branching fractions are determined to be B (B 0 → K* 0 τ + μ – ) < 1.0(1.2) x 10 –5 and B(B 0 → K* 0 τ – μ + ) < 8.2(9.8) x 10 –6 at the 90% (95%) confidence level.

Centrality determination in heavy-ion collisions with the LHCb detector

The centrality of heavy-ion collisions is directly related to the created medium in these interactions. A procedure to determine the centrality of collisions with the LHCb detector is implemented for lead-lead collisions at √ s NN = 5 TeV and lead-neon fixed-target collisions at √ s NN = 69 GeV. The energy deposits in the electromagnetic calorimeter are used to determine and define the centrality classes. The correspondence between the number of participants and the centrality for the lead-lead collisions is in good agreement with the correspondence found in other experiments, and the centrality measurements for the lead-neon collisions presented here are performed for the first time in fixed-target collisions at the LHC.
