Bioderived recyclable epoxy-anhydride thermosetting polymers and resins

The present disclosure relates to a composition that includes a structure that includes where R1 includes at least one of a carbon atom and/or an oxygen atom, R2 includes at least one of a carbon atom and/or an oxygen atom, and represents a covalent bond. In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the composition may be bioderived.

Wang, Chen↗

Conversion of S-lignin compounds to useful intermediates

The present disclosure relates to a genetically modified microbial cell that includes a first genetic modification resulting in the expression of an exogenous vanillate demethylase, such that the microbial cell is capable of metabolizing an S-lignin decomposition product and producing 2-pyrone-4,6-dicarboxylate (PDC).

Johnson, Christopher W.↗

Bioderived benzoxazines

The present disclosure relates to a composition having a structure that includes where R1 includes at least one of hydrogen, carbon, and/or fluorine, and includes a covalent bond. In some embodiments of the present disclosure, R1 may include at least one of hydrogen, fluorine, a carboxyl group, a hydroxyl group, an alkoxy group, and/or a hydrocarbon chain. In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the composition may be derived from at least one of In some embodiments of the present disclosure, at least a portion of the composition may be bioderived.

Hoyt, Caroline Bradshaw↗

Bioderived monomers as replacements in petroleum based polymers and copolymers

The present disclosure relates to a composition that includes a first repeat unit that includes where x is between 1 and 1,000, inclusively, and R1 includes at least one of a first hydrocarbon chain and/or a first hydrocarbon ring. In some embodiments of the present disclosure, R1 may further include at least one of an oxygen atom, a nitrogen atom, a sulfur atom, and/or a phosphorus atom.

Hoyt, Caroline Bradshaw↗

Bioderived epoxide triazine networks and methods of making the same

The present disclosure relates to a method that includes a first reacting of a first molecule and formaldehyde and/or a paraformaldehyde to form a triazine-containing intermediate and a second reacting of the triazine-containing intermediate with a second molecule having an epoxy group to form a triazine-containing product. As described herein, the triazine-containing product may be bioderived and biodegradable.

Hoyt, Caroline Bradshaw↗

Reversibly soluble bases for lignin oxidative depolymerization

Disclosed herein are lignin valorization strategies that integrate thermochemical pretreatment strategies. Using methods disclosed herein, yields of greater than 40% of usable monomers are obtained from lignin in biomass. The monomers can be assimilated by strains of Pseudomonas putida.

Kruger, Jacob S.↗

Engineered microorganisms for the production of intermediates and final products

The present disclosure relates to a non-naturally occurring microorganism that includes an endogenous genetic deletion that eliminates the expression of at least a pyruvate kinase, where the genetically modified prokaryotic microorganism is capable of producing 3-deoxy-D-arabino-heptulosonate-7-phosphate.
